We know it's fake because

they didn't follow the rules of vertical curves.

Ummm...

Of course its fake. It's a train game.

Some use that particular software as a simulator, others use it for their own type of amusement (play value). Some of the YouTube antics of the latter group can be quite entertaining. Some of the scenes (and action) created by the former can be quite impressive.

If it's playing with trains, it's good.

However, this view point comes from a train hobbyist that even thinks Lionel-type layouts are good. Obviously, one's mileage may vary. Guess I'm simple minded, but I simply think there's no "wrong" way for one to enjoy their hobby of trains.

Interesting

I would have thought that the program would automatically add bridges for going over the water.

Wait a minute...........are you saying all those things the Polar Express Train did were fake?  Or the locomotive in “Unstoppable “ going around a curve with the wheels on one side off the track isn’t real?  :-(

On the subject of the Unstoppable Curve

It's not impossible that a train could maintain a speed on a curve to result it going up on one side. But you're infinitely more likely to have a broken flange or a rolled-over rail. It might work with something the size of the Tom Thumb, though...

Hmmm

Hmmm - I hope they remembered to close the dampers on the air conditioning vents before taking that swan dive
