After adding the two new farming areas on the layout (see next video) while building the terrain substructure, I knew that I already had one N-Scale barn & two acceptable farmhouses but needed an additional barn & 2 silos.  So I spent some time checking prices and available models of barns on several on-line hobby shops.  Due to the high prices and available models, I decided to design and 3D print the barn & silos that I needed.

Working on Scenery - Part 2

Work continued on building of the base terrain substructure using the cardboard webbing. The cardboard strips are made from delivery boxes and cut using an inexpensive paper cutter. I use Tacky Glue & clothes pins to hold the connections together while they dry. I dislike using hot glue as it has a tendency to leave glue strings all over the place & can get into engine wheels if missed during cleanup.

Question

What are you using on the printer bed?  Looks like double sided tape in some locations?

Like station and seeing the 3d builds.

Thanks,

Eugene

On the Printer Bed

Hi Eugene,

The printer bed has 3 strips of masking tape (2 wides & 1 narrow).  Before printing you put a few lines of Elmer's Washable School Glue Stick on the tape which holds the print to the bed.  The daVinci mini can only print PLA and does not have a heated bed. The masking tape with glue stick works just fine and is more economical than buying the pre-made print bed tape from the manufacturer.

The printer has allowed me to add custom buildings and other structures that are either not commercially available or are not cost effective when compared to what it costs to print one that fits exactly in the spot on the layout. I have just purchased a new 3D printer with a larger & heated print bed that I am trying to learn how to use.
