Without planning it, I saved the best for last.

Why do I say that the Ocala Model Railroaders Historic Preservation Society - HO scale is the best?

Because theirs was the layout that had this plaque on it:

On a sad note, the layout also had this on it:

Ocala - Allen Lee Wiener, 79, of Ocala passed away peaceable on July 23, 2018.

... Allen had numerous hobbies and interests no more so than the Ocala Model Railroad club he helped found in 1995. The railroad display the club puts on every Christmas at the College of Central Florida was a highlight of the year for Allen.

He passed away less than 3 weeks prior to the show, and some of the modules present bore his name.

Allen

When I was briefly a part of this group over 25 years ago, I remember the big layout being built in the upstairs room of a building downtown, and I remember one member who went back and redid some of the work others had done because it wasn't up to his standards.  My friend Brandon and I went to a few meetings but we were just in high school.  Still, we were welcomed and invited to participate...by Allen Wiener.  He was a good ambassador for the hobby and, as I remember him, a kind-hearted person.

Glad to see the club still going strong.
