AS some may know two wheels have the rubber traction insert . Since they are Kato trucks where can I get wheel sets? Would they be the same as the old atlas or Stewart/Bowser ?

Atlas or Kato wheels should work

If memory serves, the axle gear is different but the wheels are interchangable. The traction tires were supposed to give it more pulling power but the reality is the model is too light so under any serious load the trucks just get torqued off the track. Scott Chatfield

I used one under an Athearn S12

Had to machine the frame a bit to clear the reservoirs. Runs nice. Scott Chatfield

Yes mine were Athearn S12's

c72765ab.JPG Yes mine were Athearn S12's as well . I saw an old article in one of the model train magazines decades ago where one fellow built 4 different units . Two were the S12 body with some mods and two he used two shells to make something similar to a VO-1000. If I recall he used hobbytown drives.

I built a few but used the Athearn frames that I cut and made longer and two shells as he did . I didn't like the Athearn none scale hood width after seeing a brass VO-1000 so I used two shells for the proper length and then cut them down the middle to get the proper hood width . Then cut the concor frame in 3 sections and used brass flat stock to secure them together and used the head lamp from one shell and filed to fit . Since the hood was now the proper width the motor and flywheels from the Concor SW7 were to wide so I used a Sagami can motor and timken flywheels and probably A-line or athearn drive shafts I forget. You can see the shell side view and bottom view in the 2 photo's I posted. I used the Athearn front and rear pilots and cab from the S12 and had to add on to the  walkways since with the new proper hood width they ended up to narrow as they are on the stock Athearn S12 hood width . It was a lot of work .

Not long after Stewart came out with one .
