This is the final installment for the passenger platform cover project. The video has a general overview of the completed project as well as a bonus cab level ride thru Union Station.  The passenger cover was purposely increased in height to allow sufficient clearance for the Cube camera (on its flat car) to pass under the structure. The passenger platform remains to be completed at a later date.  I am undecided whether to keep the current masonite/styrene combination or to remove it and replace with the foam board that was used under the main station and REA Express buildings.

The entire structure was built from 3-D printed parts (PLA) made on my daVinci mini printer (shown in some of the following pictures). Here are a few pictures that show some of the assembly process during its construction.

Thanks

Hey Filip,

This project has given the Union Station area the look that I wanted. It is now at a point that I will leave it for a while to move onto some other work that has to be gotten to.  Thanks for your comments, they are most appreciated....John

Track Numbers

Philip,

Thanks for watching and your question. Just below table level, there are power cut-off switches for tracks 4 thru 13 (not shown in the video). The track numbers sitting in between the tracks are for guests or myself to see from the front of the layout so we will be able to flip the correct power switch. There is a power on LED at each power switch.

Great work!!!

Impressive structure for the Union Station. I really like these printed structures. Microns? 100? Did you have to sand/fill them afterwards?

Thanks for posting, i ll be following this!

The Union Station Structures

Yannis,

Thanks for your comment and questions.  Some of the prints do require a bit of sanding as you do get an occasional string of PLA here and there (typical of this type of printer). The printer has an extruder with a nozzle diameter of 0.4mm and can produce layer thickness in the 0.1 mm to 0.4 mm range. Its print area is a 5.9" cube (150 mm cube) so when designing a large structure (or pieces of one), I have to divide them up into printable sections. The original extruder, which is still on the machine, has around 1188 hours of print time so it has earned its keep.
