See how a forty-year-old magazine article inspired my latest layout. I've written a "Layout Tour" blog about "The Mines of Xenon" sci-fi model railroad at https://smallurbanrails.wordpress.com/complete with spaceships, robots, and dinosaurs.

Layout's not quite done, but wanted to get something posted.

Come on over. Children welcome. Purists beware.

For sure fun, creativity and some impressive modeling it does not get any better than this. You really nailed it young man.  I think the future is in good hands.

Really Cool!

And Xenon is also an element, "Xenon is a chemical element with symbol Xe and atomic number 54. It is a colorless, dense, odorless noble gas found in the Earth's atmosphere in trace amounts. Although generally unreactive, xenon can undergo a few chemical reactions such as the formation of xenon hexafluoroplatinate, the first noble gas compound to be synthesized. Xenon is used in flash lamps and arc lamps, and as a general anesthetic."

That could provide an understory to the "The Mines of Xenon"!

Melding railroading and

Melding railroading and sci-fi into one through modeling, wonderfully presented. I can see those in the gaming community that do models and terrain scapes (game boards), getting a new taste of model railroading. Other than moving pictures in video games, the Dungeons & Dragons, Warhammer 40K, miniature figure painting also have been getting into building small playable models on diorama boards, but they have no movement (other than hands and some dice rolling). Adding real movement can only help steal some of them over from gaming to model railroading!

Great to see your blog touching on that theme also, I subscribe to a few terrain building channels on YouTube and also get a lot of inspiration and ideas for scenery through watching them. One I like is Mel " TheTerrainTutor" his sense of humor and british mannerisims, I find endearing.

P.S. Next to 8-Ball Deluxe, the Xenon Pinball machine is one of the most fun and playable pinballs made IMHO.

LOVE IT!

I'm a big fan of Sci-Fi/Fantasy model railroading.

My plan is to some day have some cool "Steampunk" elements on my layout.
