The REA Express Building Complex was inspired by the original building modeled by Dr. Nick Muff on his HO Kansas City Southern RR. The video above shows the current state of the 30 door express building complex. The buildings were modified to fit the area available on the N-Scale ATSF Paradigm Division and are not meant to be an exact replica of the actual buildings.  My buildings sat unpainted until the last few days but have now been painted.   The entire set of three buildings were 3-D printed on my XYZ daVinci mini printer. The only exceptions are the posts (yellow & white in the video) holding up the shed roof sections, which are styrene, and the 220 grit sandpaper that has been used for the "tar paper" roof look on the top of the main & triangular buildings. I am currently measuring & printing the remainder of the shed roof sections that go over the doors of the complex. Each section of roof is basically a semi-custom design.

The following picture shows the main building on my work bench with the first test fit of the shed roof.

The next picture shows the underside of a section of shed roof. The double line of support near the front edge (top of picture) is meant to be able to insert & hold a 1.5 mm x 1.5 mm styrene post.

The following pictures show the painted building complex being test fit onto the layout on the new foam board base.

The last picture shows a close-up picture of the main building. The signs are visible to some degree as the signs in N-Scale are 5 point print. The foam board base still needs to have a finished edge glued to the front along the tracks (similar to what was done on the milk dock project) plus be painted.

The Union Station Area

Bob, Thanks for the comments.  The illusion of a large city is exactly what I am trying to create within the Union Station area.  One of the items that I need to find is an appropriate background for the station area that will work with the roads/bridges that I have.....John

My REA in Nscale

Congratulation for your 3D printing job; the building is convincing and seeing N scale 3D printing is great.

This is my free lance railway express agnency, also in N scale.

I started with an old Kibri station and modified the look  and the details, the shed is also from Kibri and modified to cover a double track; his roof is scratch in styrene and the small bay window roof over the main building is scratch with Grand Line windows to give a convincing look.

The REA will bejust next to my Corinnesburgh station.

My corrinnesburgh station (a kitbash of the Kibri Baden-Baden station put on a elevated deck)

More REA Buildings

Marc, I agree that we should have more of the MRH modlers share their REA buildings with the rest of us.

As a side note, I remember seeing the REA Express buildings many many years ago.  They were sort of the UPS & Fedex of their era.
