About a month ago, I spent a week at TCS, along with Stuart and Balazs, working on the two models of the forthcoming TCS throttles. Here is a video from our field trip to Rich Murray's layout. We replaced his command station with the prototype TCS command station, and then used protype throttles (I think we had five or six). It was great fun, and I hope you enjoy the video.

Looks like you had fun.

I thought that the TCS command station was going to include its own wifi base station (not sure I want to call it a router).

Has that changed, or did I just know something that wasn't so?

Are you to the point where you can do a side-by-side comparison of the two throttles and their features?

Will the throttles (either of them) work on other layouts with JMRI?

More Information

Hi Jeff,

Yes, the command station can act as a base station. I believe it's limited to 4 connections, so using a separate access point allows us to use more throttles (we had 5 or 6 connected at the same time).

I'm going to be doing a video very soon on the mini throttle. We're not ready to provide a side-by-side comparison yet as the mini throttle is so new. Most of the work on the mini throttle is around the UI, as the screen is a lot smaller. I've spent the last few weeks working on that, and I'm almost to the point where I'm pretty happy with the main screen (the train driving window).

Finally, both throttles support the WiThrottle protocol, which means they work with JMRI, Digitrax's LNWI, and the MRC device.

Upgrade

Looks like I might just have to wait for this product to release before I upgrade my Control system...

Thanks John!

I enjoyed seeing the throttles in use and the feedback as well.  Very exciting!

The layout appeared very nice as well. Glad he could open his home to all of us.

One year later?!

John - Did I miss something?

Hope all is well and the throttle project is still coming forward. After all the accolades over the ProtoThrottle, it seems that the idea of a better, and more interactive, throttle has a real interest and demand for changes in the way we operate trains.

Still interested!

Getting there

True, I haven't posted here in a while, but we've been making progress and I've been doing the occasional YouTube video about it. We're just about to start on the injection molds for the case. And then we have to do FCC certification. So we're looking probably at late summer or so for them to be available.
