For those of you who are Milwaukee Road fans, and even those who aren't, I thought some of you might enjoy this. I found some videos shot in the 1953, 1954 and 1961 of the Milwaukee Road's electrified coastal division just east of the Cascades in Eastern Washington state. Most of it in color!  Shown are many scenes of sectionmen and railroad personnel around the Ellensburg depot, ironically where my daughter is now attending college and about 60 miles from where I was born and grew up. Very nostalgic for me. Great winter scenes and veiws of boxcabs and Haiwatha trainsets. The video is in two parts due to YouTubes length limits.

Wow

Wow.  Wow.  Did I say, Wow.

I've watched it a couple of times already, and I bet I could watch 50 more times and see something new each time.  From buildings, to details, to those great box cabs.  (I almost jumped ship and modeled CMStP&P and GN electrics in the mountains, at one time).  There's a lot there.  And, I started to shiver during the first part of part one.

Thanks so much

I know what you mean

I know what you mean Don, I've watched it several times myself. Really makes you realize how invloved working on the railroad was back then. Sadly it's all gone now. I've ridden that old right of way on my mountain bike in places at times inlcuding through the 2.2 mile long tunnel at Hyak. Sure wish I had a time machine.

Great video

I have always been fascinated by trains under catenary. And what better palce to see it than on the Milwaukee Road.

Sure we have electric power in NYC but most of it isn't accessible and few movies exist of it. But it is there.

For example, Park Avenue in Manhattan(above 45the Street) is built the way it is because the approach tracks to Grand Cenral Station run underneath then central mall. Those tracks are designed for electric locomotives to pull trains into and out of Grand Central Station and its been that way since around the turn of 20the Century when it was discovered that steam trains not only created alot smoke and noise bur also made breathing and staying alive near impossibilities.
