Yannis

Hi all,

Following good advice and lots of research i ended up with a draft version of the trackplan for the layout for my current space. As previously discussed in a TOMA related thread of mine (where i got considerable help), the idea is that i rework things on my current space by building TOMA modules originating from the desing of my future permanent layout in a next/future house. So thanks to the TOMA ideas and inspiration, i will be able to start working on my future layout now (or relatively soon ).

I am attaching a photo that contains both plans. I numbered the modules used in both layouts so that the link between them is clearer. I am undecided on modules 6 and 7.

More details in the next post:

Thanks for your time and help!

Yannis

PS.  It is in HO Scale.

The bigger picture...

So the future layout is point to point, with continuous run possible. From 8st/1st yards in LA to LAUPT, Pasadena up to Cucamonga. East staging is at the lower (non depicted) level below the benchwork on the right side and access is from each helix.

8th/1st street yards are compressed to being side by side. They are on the lower level (30" height). Going west, we enter the west helix, going up to a wye, either to the mainline and west to Pasadena or to LAUPT (50" height, above the 8th/1st street yards).

Planned scenes include: LA River, Arroyo Seco Bridge, South Pasadena, Pasadena, Colorado Boulevard (Route 66), Industrial area in North Pasadena, San Dimas (or non-depot rural area), Cucamonga and off to staging (below the industrial area, representing San Bernardino).

Pasadena, part of Colorado Boulevard and parts of the Industrial area and Cucamonga, are to be included in the current smaller space layout using the TOMA idea/approach and respective modules numbered 1 to 7. Modules represented by red rectangles.

Upper level height 50" to 54". Lower level (1st/8th street yards and staging) at 30" (seated ops).

Min Radius viewed from the outside 40-42". 36" elsewhere (including the helix).

Notes:

1. Sidings and industrial spurs following Colorado boulevard are provisional.

2. Still undecided on the view blocks, scene structure on the part where there is the transition between Colorado blvd and the industrial area on the upper right corner.

Wow! That is going to be one

Wow! That is going to be one large and great layout. Will it be in a nice cool basement or a room with AC?

Many thanks!

Deemiorgos: The current smaller one will be on a basement. The future one, most probably on a basement but depending on circumstances a ground-floor room is also an option.

Warflight: Thank you! You were local to the area right? Pasadena?

Norco, actually...

But every summer (if the smog wasn't too bad) we would go to Cucamonga, and go to Gusti park there... (back then it was just called "Cucamonga Park") Ride the paddle boats... maybe fish the stocked ponds, but always swim in their artificial pond/lake/pool.

Good times!

I really liked the setting of Cucamonga and especially the art-deco (streamline moderne) ATSF depot that once stood there. I plan on having a packing house to the west of the depot and a winery siding to the east (representing the historical wineries of the area). To the north of the mainline i ll have Route 66, using some modeler's license and selective compression, since the actual road was about a mile away to the north of the mainline.
