So i was jumped about how this is done by someone on facebook. So that being said, trying this method of tapering dowels can be dangerous, if you are not comfortable with power tools and your hands than this may not be for you. ( NOT OSHA APPROVED). I go thru a pair of gloves about ever 6 packages.THat does give me enough logs to do a few buildings. So the taper is from 16 inches scale on the but end to 10 inches scale at the top. You end up with about 60 feet of log to work with because of the amount you use to hold it in the drill.Not shown in this video i also do my tree trunks this way only i use clear cedar. What you do for the cedar trunks is to set up a table saw at 3/8 inch on the side stop. Set the blade height to be at least 7/8.cut a piece off the 1 X 8 cedar board 16 inches long. Stand the board up the 8 inch way and cut down the center of the board, now set the board on it's side and pass it thru the saw. You should end up with 2 sticks 16 inches long and 3/8 inch square.

Now to taper the 3/8 square cedar you need to have a 1/2 drill, in order to chuck up that size, when you taper one of these you end up at the base having a flare just like a real tree does. I will make a video of the cedar tree process next time i make up some.
