This is part 2 of Preliminary Operations Planning for the ATSF Paradigm Division. This part shows the results of re-positioning trains to match the schedule sequence for 00:01- 06:00 AM. The biggest change has been to change where trains reside in the lower staging yard based upon their location (north, east or west).  This sequence was chosen since it has the most trains run in a 6-hour period/trick.

A suggestion from a reader of Part 1 on my MRH blog caused me to change Staging Yard "B" to hold trains located in the west (Texas, California, etc) and Staging Yard "A" to hold trains located in the north & east (Chicago, St. Louis, Omaha, etc). Ready Tracks West & East hold those trains that are ready (in sequence) to travel up their respective helix to run their route as either an eastbound or westbound train. The following diagram (also in the video) shows the relationship of the lower level staging yards.

The following chart (also in the video) shows the position of each train by track # in the “start track” column.  The “end track” column will be filled-in after some testing (after Thanksgiving probably) as to where the trains will fit after making their entry, run, and go back to staging.  In some cases, you see blank cells in the “start track” for sequence #s 6, 11, 16, & 19.  These are the return trains for sequence #s 1, 5, 10, & 2.  This reduces the number of physical trains/equipment that are needed. For example, I can use one set of equipment for the #15/16 Texas Chief because of the way that the staging level is designed. This process will also have to be done for each of the remaining 6-hour sequences/tricks to de-conflict staging locations.

The following video shows the results of repositioning the trains.

Thanks for watching and especially for comments & suggestions.
