A week ago, Joe Fugate hosted the first operating session on the Siskiyou Line in nearly a year... if you don't count the one he held earlier that day for the National Narrow Gauge Convention.

Remarkably, there really weren't all that many operators that showed up (so Joe got to run trains), and several of the ones that did were first timers or visitors from distant lands. One even brought a trio of DRGW SD40T-2's that we used as the helper set that night.

I had helpers first trick, and then I got to sit around and do nearly nothing as the Roseburg Yardmaster second trick (sometimes that's how it works out). If we'd gone another half-hour I would have been deliriously busy as I had at least three trains hitting the yard nearly simultaneously, two of which were terminating there with cars to sort out.

Brian Sopke photographs his train at West Switch, Rice Hill - on the main.

Bruce Morden, who was the Layout Design Special Interest Group coordinator in Anaheim at the convention, watches his train descend from Rice Hill summit towards the west switch. (Thanks to Joe for the name & position)

Supervisor Fugate gets to run a train - Cottage Grove, picking up water cars. It's notable that he's one of the few people who can actually watch his trains here from that angle. (Hey, it's his layout!)

That's Bruce Morden

Jeff:

The gentleman with the beard is Bruce Morden ... he's from Cali and was the LD SIG Coordinator in Anaheim.

Thanks for the photos, by the way. I'm not used to being on that side of the camera!

I had a total blast running trains ...

Thanks for the report Jeff!

Thanks for the report Jeff! Looks like you all had fun, as usual

The D&RGW helper set adds up to the realism, since it's now 1988 on Joe's layout!

Video of the Siskiyou September Operations

Nice photos Jeff.  Thanks for the helpers out of Cottage Grove on the EUMEY.  I took a few minutes of video that night and posted them over on YouTube at

Enjoyed the evening immensely.

Siskiyou September Operations

You are making me jealous. I wish I could attend one of those operating sessions. Unfortunately Oregon isn't around the corner from Fresh Meadows, New York and they haven't come up witrh a workable transporter (ala Star Trek) that could wisk me to the neighborhood.

Nice video!

Bruce:

Thanks for posting some very nice video of the layout! It was great tag-teaming with you at the op session as the two person crew on the Siskiyou Line West and the Coos Bay Hauler West ...

Sigh, more photos to hunt down....

I'm going to have to figure out a not-self-hosted solution for photos.... I don't want to break the MRH site's hard drives either.
