Hi all, I was thinking about the problems of adding photos to backdrops. If the whole thing including the sky is part of the photo it requires a very tall print and if one just prints the lower part with trees and structures and glues it onto a painted sky it requires a lot of trimming and blending to get a realistic look to the upper edge of the tree line, etc.  So I'm wondering if a backdrop decal could be printed to be applied to a painted sky? The decal could include all the mid distance features to the tree line so would only need to be a few inches tall, and perhaps a printed decal would blend in to the sky on it's own like lettering on a freight car? Anyone ever seen this done? .......DaveB

Interesting

Interesting concept but one drawback - the decals would need to include white behind the colors for opacity so they could be placed over the background images. This rules out using a laser printer for printing the decals and the costs quickly become astronomical, even compared to vinyl's cost of $7 to $10 per sq. ft.

Compare this with the photo paper murals that my local shop is making for me, he prints 24" wide for $3 per sq.ft.
