I saw this photo on the Baby Boomer Freight Car Yahoo Group:

Being discussed was the B&O boxcar.  My vision was drawn to all the neat "junk" behind.

There's a bunch of stuff in the weeds to the left, stacked what looks like empty barrels, a pile of sand with some material and more barrels in front, a stack of timbers and a tire in the back.  Adding some detail as this to our scene modeling really gives it a "lived in"  realistic appearance.

Maintance dept maybe

Could be some pallets over the top R side of the B&O car. Other interesting stuff is the ties of those turnouts are almost buried in ballast and dirt with lots of grime (oil?) down the center and along the edges. There is probably a stack of rail back there too.
