Hello again MRH Community!

Due to the comments and interest about my prototype-based freelanced railroad, I've decided to do another post. This one will contain the diesel paint schemes of the railroad from the first diesels until the latest models.

Passenger Paint Scheme: Used on all RBR&W passenger units from delivery until Amtrak

Switcher Paint Scheme As-Delivered: Used on all RBR&W switchers delivered from ALCO, BLW, EMD, and FM

Switcher Paint Scheme Repaint: Applied to certain RBR&W switchers during the 1960's

Switcher Paint Scheme Appalachian Lines: Applied to select surviving RBR&W switchers during the 1970's

First Generation Paint Scheme: Used on all RBR&W road power from 1953-1960

First Generation Paint Scheme Recession: Used on all new and select RBR&W road power from 1960-1964

Second Generation Paint Scheme: Used on all new and select RBR&W road power from 1964-1970

Road Unit Paint Scheme Appalachian Lines: Used on all new and select RBR&W road power from 1970-onwards

I like all the paint schemes

I like all the paint schemes except the blue one. The only reason is the color. I think a railroad like yours would keep the yellow and black colors even if the became part of another system as it would be likely that they would be the parent system of what ever they joined. Now if the Appalachian lines is a much larger system they might loose their identity and colors.

Really like the concept. If looking for a different name for the road, you could try A&W Atlantic and Western, Chesapeake and Western,  Seaboard and Western, Costal and Western, Piedmont and Western.

Colour Change

My idea behind the colour change was to reflect the reimaging of the railroad for the 1970s similar to what the Allegheny Midland did when they joined the Appalachian Lines (although now I wonder about a paint scheme that's redish brown). The RBR&W was planning to use the joining of Appalachian Lines as a way to reimage the railroad. However, I think changing paint scheme, typeface, and logo helps enough with that without having to change colours. I will do a couple variations of the last scheme to see.

By version two do you mean

By version two do you mean the one with black and yellow or the one with red and yellow?

The black and yellow Blane,

The black and yellow Blane, still keeps some identity for the past yet embraces the new.

Don't forget...

I like your schemes; very believable. But you have overlooked one thing. The railroads are required to designate the front of a diesel locomotive...this goes back to the early days of infernal combustion. An "F" is needed generally on the frame near the front steps. Usually it's painted or a decal, although some roads used a cast plate in the past. Check out photos of your favorite prototypes from the eras you model...that F is always there.

Front F Added

I had actually forgotten about the practice of having the F labelling the front of the locomotive. All drawings have had this added to the correct end.

I prefer the distinct scheme on the ...

GP9 through the GP35.  That would make a good family scheme.  Try your S2 in the same color scheme.  You could copy the SP's Tiger Stripe scheme on the S2 ends using your black and yellow colors.  That would give you your safety scheme.  Just a thought.

Of all...

Of all the paint schemes, I really like the one on the GP 35 v.3. The black and gold with red stripes are a really nice scheme.
