Was anyone aware of this?  I just got this reply.

Weaver Models will be closing our doors as of June 29, 2015.  We are truly thankful for your business over the years and greatly appreciated your hanging in there with us for all these years.  But the time has come that Joe is ready to retire.

Have a Great Day!

It's true

Sadly, I just spoke with the Weaver offices on the phone and they are closing at the end of June.  Nobody is interested in purchasing the business and the owner wants to retire.  Six people will be losing their jobs with no good prospects in the area.

Weaver

I checked their web site and no mention of this.  I would think they would post something on their site.  Also their newsletter, most recent issue, doesn't mention this either.

Weaver ends? But not forgotten.

Weaver revolutionized the O scale affordable made in America RS 3. I guess that was back in the early 80's? Ahh, the red box models were a breath of fresh air. I started out with one of them and a NW 2 made by All Nation.

Weaver was first to make those 50 foot boxcars in so many paint schemes.  They are(were?) innovators in early American plastic O,scale models. Sorry to learn of their end. Their product is not as over the top detailed as Atlas, but certainly more affordable and easy to modify if needed.

All my best for a happy retirement Joe.

Yeah they are a great way to get into O scale and there's lots of used Weaver cars on the market so most folks can find something they like. I'm surprised that no one wants to take over Weaver if the price is right. Perhaps that's a bad sign for the state of the hobby's health? .......DaveB

Scalecoat Paints

Since Weaver seems to be the producer of ScaleCoat paints, has anyone heard what is going to happen with the paints?

Same as the models, bye bye unless someone is willing to take it over. But since model painting is in a decline I wouldnt hold my breath.

Yes, you're right Nick.

I have a RS-3. It's a nice and reliable locomotive which runs smoothly.

I hope Weaver will survive.

Sad to see them close. But I

Sad to see them close.

But I guess it came down to  a) not adapting to changing  business model, ie how people buy, marketing. Orb) not having products that consumers want to buy.  Like I have been told years ago. Its not hard to open a business and its even easier to have it close down. Sad but harsh  truth of business.
