Hi.

Has anyone figured out how to read back Soundtraxx Micro Tsunami decoders (logging-light steam)  I have tried with and without a Power Booster from Tony's and with and without various resisters (up to 1K OHM) across the track.  No luck.  I know it's not my MRC Prodigy A2 as it will read other decoders including a full size Tsunami although you sometime have to try a couple of times.

Many thanks,

Peter

I can with the NCE Power Cab.

I can with the NCE Power Cab. I use the Micro-Tsunami and LokSound Micro. Both read back just fine.

Soundtraxx Trouble shooting

Soundtrax and just any powerbooster may not work they may require the

PTB-100  Programming Track booster because it may be due to incompatibilities between the electrical requirements of the sound decoder (which are different from conventional decoders due to the added audio circuitry) and the electrical characteristics of the programming track.

Here may be the reason your having trouble reading your decoder:

here is the Soundtrax website and the page for trouble shooting soundtrax

Thanks for the informative

Thanks for the informative reply, Dan.  I have a Power Pax booster from Tony's and it allows me to tead back a Full size Tsunami although sometoimes you needeed to try a few times. You tell me and I'm told by others that the PTB-100 solves it.  Don't know why but I thought the PTB-100 and the Power Pax were the same thing marketed under different names.  Have you had any experience with the Power Pax?

Sorry Peter I don't use any

Sorry Peter I don't use any of the boosters as I'm useing the Lenz system and they have the ability to read all decoders where ever they may be on the RR.

I have done extensive reading about the different boosters and the Soundtrax people have a decoder over ride that Power Pax Doesn't have so that their PTB-100 can read the Soundtrax DCC-Sound Decoders. I do have a programmer track but with the Lenz System you don't really need it. Now that Lenz has developed the new radio control system I don't have to go to the NCE system as the new lenz has more power and easire opperation.

I haven't been keeping up with my mail!  Thanks Dan.  I have heard the same thing from other people.  I do have a full size Tsunami in a 2-8-0 Bachmann and my old set-up read it fine. (at least before the fire and water damage-that's a story for another day!!).  That decoder was bought about a year to 16 months ago.  Did soundtraxx make changes after that or is this only a problem with the Micros?

I've been thru this all myself.  What resolved the whole issue once and for all !  : Soundtraxx PTB-100.

I also have the PowerPax since day one,  It has never  worked with any of the severa true  Soundtraxx Tsunami decoders I have.   It worked with the Bachmann Tsunami and would progrm  other decoders but not a true Tsu.   I was pulling hairs till I gave in and purchased a PTB-100. Since then I have had no problems reading ANY  decoder, period, end of call.

The PowerPax may work for some, but it does not for me and this was using it's own power pack they supply.  So yours may be the reason for the same end results.

Get a PTB-100.

Read back on Micro Tsunami decoders

I also had problems reading the Tsunami decoders. I got the Soudtraxx PTB-100 and now I can read/program all my micro and full size Tsunami decoders. No more problems.
