Setting my sections up in place took a bit of fussing and maybe should have done the backdrop first!?

Backdrop first?

Naw- you have tools; you can fix it!  (You will probably disguise the joint between the backdrop and the layout anyway, so the fit probably won't have to be perfect).

Good progress; I will be interested to see how the plantation develops.  Do you scratch build palm trees?

Palm trees

Thanks Rog.  I was going to drive in town and get some Masonite today but it's dumping rain - Hurricane Ana missed us but the warm weather and moisture is letting loose!

Maybe it's a good day to make some Palm trees. I use wire, floral tape and feathers. Will post some photos if I make some progress.

Feathers?

Yes -  please show us some - furnace filter evergreens are the outer edge of my capability - palm groves would look so cool!

Glad the worst of the weather missed you!

CORK SHEET...

Neil, I have a 2' x 8', sheet of 1/8" cork sheet, for my yard area. Would using a tube of white, or clear caulk, be good to fasten it to the base board? I want to secure it, but, in case I need to change something later, that should be as good as glue, but, be able to scrape it up, and re-position it... IF NEED BE. Now, I don't expect that to happen, but.... HEY!!! IT'S ME!!! I COULD SCREW UP A TORNADO, if given the proper chance without guidance!!! lol!!!

Not true, but, I tried my hand at funny.... naw... not my job.

Thanks friend!! Hope your day is well, and all is safe out in PARADISE!!!

Calk might work to hold the cork in place.

I don't think that there is anything that will allow you to pull up and reposition the cork without destroying it.  Typically the cork sheet is more delicate than the glue that you select to hold it down.

Thank you, Russ...

i am fixin' to spread the caulk around with a serrated edge trowel, and lay 'er down!!!

Blessings! Thanks for your advice, and as always, Neil, I look forward to your comments.

Caulk

Caulk works well and anything you use will be hard to remove after painting (which I do right away). If you have to remove the cork then a nice broad metal drywall blade helps a lot. Lately I’ve been changing stuff about as often as I make progress. I’ve been meaning to take pictures but find my hands are always covered in something nasty. You’d think nitrile gloves would be a good idea especially given our current concern for cleanliness.

Not many tornadoes out here but I’d appreciate if you were here if one occurred. Nice to know someone could screw it up!! Ok. Not funny.

Removing cork

My TT scale construction crew removed the cork from my N scale layout so I could start a new TT layout. As you can see it wasn't a pretty sight, it was actually a messy site :> )   That cork was glued with white glue and came up very reluctantly. IIRC I finished the job using a hook scraper and elbow grease....DaveB

Get Pictures!

Neil,

I have different comments!  Forget back drop for now.  Forget the rain - it may never stop anyway.  Pick up around the right of way just a bit.  Then get some of those On30 locos and cars  onto the under construction right of way tracks and RUN TRAINS while you take photos for us. Then, get those pictures posted!  Oh, stay off your bike until you get those pictures posted!

Honohina is no more but ...

The layout has taken a new path! Based on Oahu around Waipahu it will climb through the cane fields up to the pineapple plantations. I’ve posted a couple of progress photos over on The Pine Spur Chronicles. (Pineapples btw not cones.)

I hope you will follow me there!

Pineapple plants

The good news is that young plants don’t have pineapples! Here is a shot from my former “plantation”.

Hi Neil!!!

Just thought you might be interested in my ability to laser cut my own turnout bases. They are inexpensive, as all get out, when I cut them myself. Here is a picture of one I just finished, using a Fast Tracks turnout, #6, and I cut them with the laser cutter. THEY TURNED OUT AWESOME!!! I think you do a different scale, but, I have ALL of the templates for all the scales, Fast tracks sells and uses. If you are interested in me making some for you, I would be glad to do so!!

Joe Fugate, You are welcome to inquire too!!! lol!!! i KNOW you make your own turnouts, maybe I can help you too!!!

Hope all is well, in the middle of the pond, and in Paradise!!!

Fantastic

Taz - You are making me drool all over my white work shirt! Now you have me thinking that you could also laser cut your own ties strips for straight track as well as turnouts of different sizes, scales, curved, etc!  Wow.

Holy cow!!!

I am going to offer any help you need. My next one will be for the curved turnout I had shown you before.

Glad you liked it! I am open to making some for you, all you have to do is supply the materials, and let me know the scale. I'll ship 'em back to ya!!

Keep in touch!!!
