I am looking for some specific info regards to the Rapido GMD1 being released. I am backdating my layout to 1990. I believe this unit is correct for the time period, in fact I know it is. What I do want to understand though is when the CN noodle was produced vs. the sargent stripes.  I model the Niagara area in Ontario and have really only seen the striped models on the rare occasion they pass through.  Would both paint schemes be appropriate for my area in my time frame? Also, I do believe that Rapido is releasing a striped version as well of the GMD1, correct?  Any help or discussion is greatly appreciated.

Stripes

CN locomotives were repainted into stripes starting in the mid to late 1970s.

There wouldn't have been any left in the original 1961 noodle anymore by 1990.

Noodle

Sorry Dave, I was thinking of the original noodle scheme from 1961, with the all black body and cab with just red on the ends, and the white sills.

After looking at the Rapido link, I see that during the 1970s and early 1980s the GMD-1s were repainted in CN's switcher scheme with all-red cab and nose and yellow reflective stripe on the sills.

The stripes were the standard road scheme and that got applied to the 1980s rebuilt locos.

Also note that there is one other version of the noodle scheme, and that's with an all red cab again, but with a single angled white stripe behind the cab, filled in with red between the stripe and the cab. That's the modern CN scheme introduced in the mid-1990s when CN dropped the stripes again.

So, the Rapido offer with the

So, the Rapido offer with the all red cab, black body and simple wet noodle is appropriate for a 1990 scheme. And the sargent stripes would also be appropriate for 1990.  Love the stripes and will wait for that release.
