As production began to ramp up at Lehigh Cement, the MFTR found themselves in need of additional pulling power to handle the increase in rail traffic. That power has arrived on the railroad as a lovely blue and white GP38-2 leased from EMD Leasing.

I splurged last week and bought an Athearn Genesis GP38-2 installed with Tsunami Sound for my little layout.  I don't normally spend this kind of money, but I've been dying for an engine in this paint scheme for several years now... so there she is.

As far as I can tell, real EMDX #782 is hard at work in Dallas right now, however in my imaginary world EMDX simply leased it to the MFTR instead.

My two engines look so great lashed together I decided to create a short video to show them off and also to give you an idea of how I operate my model railroad.

I love it!

Operations, the only way to fly! Engines sounded good, but no horn or bell? I always do 4 or 5 dings and a toot when changing direction, especially in yard limits! My new engine is an Ath. Gen. SDP45! Carry on! John Colley, Sonoma, CA

Hi Matt, Your layout is

Hi Matt,
Your layout is really coming together and looks great!  Anyway, the BN was using the sister unit 778 in the late 80's on the Kettle Falls to Nelson branch.  So your back story is 100% believable for the area
Here's a cell phone picture of a photograph of 778 in Fruitvale BC in the late 80's

@John, Thanks!  I usually

@John, Thanks!  I usually enjoy blowing my own horn and I'm not sure why I didn't do it in the video. Probably more worried about making sure the camera was recording.  Oh well, I'll get it right next time.

@Andrew, Awesome Picture!  I had no idea that my next door neighbors had the same idea I had! Well, at least I know I've gotten at least that detail right.

@Bill, my current track plan can be found on my blog here:  http://mftrailroad.blogspot.com/2012/01/final-track-plan.html Note that I've added 7 feet of hidden mainline off of the right side of the layout since drawing that up. I'll update it soon.

Nice!

Neat video Matt, and congratulations on the new acquisition.  Looks terrific!

I enjoyed your taste in music too!  What song was that, and who performed it?

Painted Backdrop

@Don  Yeah, I painted the backdrop myself.  I'm pretty happy with it. Certainly looking forward to getting the background scenery in place to see how it all blends together.  You can read more about how I painted it on my blog here:  http://mftrailroad.blogspot.com/2013/03/painting-backdrop.html

@Joe  Well, my favorite type of music is Blues and It just feels right for railroading.  The artist is Boo Boo Davis and the song is called "I'm Coming Home"

I'm also a big fan of rap so I'll probably be sneaking some of that in a few of my future videos.

Great model

Great model and the sound is awesome. Does she have the pickup problem that some Athearn Genesis engines had?. I´m waiting so long Athearn to release a CSX GP38-2.

No pickup problems

She isn't fully broken in yet, but she seems to be running very well.  My Athearn GP15-1 (the lead locomotive) had tons of pickup problems when I first got it, but (knock on wood) that seems to have dissapated.
