Time to post another update picture for my engine service/ TT and Roundhouse area.   Work continues along at a slow but steady pace.  I added short stub tracks on the opposite end of the bridge when it's lined for the approach tracks and then added the roundhouse off to the side on an extension to the benchwork.  This extension can be separated from the main layout shelf in order to facilitate easier moving if the time comes. There are more tracks to come  in the space to the front side of the roundhouse and there will be a mountain in the corner covering the too sharp 18 radius curve  that was necessary to reach the planned staging on a shelf above my workbench. Everything has been temporarily hooked up and tested and the TT has been programmed with the positions of all tracks added so far. The WS black foam sheets look a bit ratty but they are salvaged from my old layout and will be covered with ground cover and ballast anyway.  Now I just need some steam locos! Anyone want to trade one for the GP-7 in the pic?....LOL

And one more for the night.....

I needed a little change of pace so I decided to go ahead and get the mountain profile boards in place.  These are made of dollar store foam core and are necessary because I don't want to attach any part of the layout, scenery or otherwise, to the backdrop. I'm hoping my son and I will be able to pick up the entire layout and move it out of the room if  it becomes necessary. Anyway, these should give some idea of how I envision the mountain behind the TT area. Also laid out some old salvaged  track pieces  to try and work out the rest of the outdoor area.  I apologize for the quality of the pic. I don't like to use flash and either I can't get the camera to quite focus right or the shakiness in my hands is causing a slight blur. Good enough to get the general idea of what's going on though.

Tongue in cheek....

It was more or less a tongue in cheek comment....hence theand the.  For the record though, it's  a Bachmann GP-7 with DCC. Pretty decent runner too.  I'm hoping to fill the three stalls of the roundhouse up with a couple of Consolidations and a Mikado at some point. Been eyeing a Pacific  too but I think those were mostly passenger locos and my layout is anything but passenger oriented.... I haven't quite nailed down my era yet, it could be all steam or it could stretch into transition in which case the GP-7 wouldn't be totally out of place. It's my "test" loco right now but I may part with it at some point depending on what my era actually becomes.

figured such

I'd say hold on to it, and use it either as a leased unit or foreign power waiting in an interchange yard.

for a steamer - a couple of the newer roundhouse 2-8-0's (one of the "modern" versions, with electric, instead of oil burning headlights) I think would fit nicely
