Now I understand what it means...

To go out with a bang, or in this case, a whole bunch of them.

Mike

and, to crown their disgraceful proceedings and add insult to injury, they threw me over the Niagara Falls, and I got wet.

From Mark Twain's short story "Niagara"

Going out with a bang

That is a great way to celebrate his last day.  I hope the passengers were in on it.  If I was an unaware passenger I would probably need a new pair of pants afterward.

Bang?

when we were kids, we would be chased by the railroad dicks(detectives) and cops for putting torpedoes on the tracks. they were used as signals to warn the engineer about whatever. brought back some memories. (dont ask how we got them)
