It. Is surely the only one of its kind, but it exists nonetheless. On the Discover Live Steam website, there is listed for sale a standard gauge 56.5" steam speeder. Approximately the size of a Fairmont speeder, it has an oil-fired vertical boiler and a two-cylinder vertical steam engine. For a mere $95,000 it can grace a set-off near you. http://www.discoverlivesteam.com/discoverforsale/forsale/1_allan3/index.htm#standard

That would keep the mailbox

Video of the steam powered speeder

I saw this speeder at Santa Rosa's Wunderkammer Festival a couple weeks ago. They did several runs in between the handcar races with different "Steam Candy" on board each set. Not the greatest video ever, but

It reminds me of a scaled-up version of the BAGRS Project Loco.

There's two prototypes for everything...

Well, that's interesting... Thanks to Bernd for finding the pic of another steam speeder!

I wonder what is the history on that one? It is smaller than the one in NorCal, and appears to be narrow gauge. I vaguely recognize the passenger car in the background of the photo but cannot make out the lettering.
