Well the kitbash of Atlas "Middlesex Mfg. kit is now finished. It has become Brown County Warehouses, Inc. located in Green Bay WI. on my HO scale CNW Peninsula Div. Railroad. Here are some pictures of the completed building. The first two show it in it's location and the others are more close up and a little detail.

Cool

I like the subtle weathering and overall colors.

Very sharp

Great looking building facade. May I ask what method you used to get the brick and mortar looking so good? Did you paint it all all mortar color first and dry roller the brick color on?

Impressive

That's  quite an impressive structure! Nicely done. Is that 3 kits or just 2?

Nice building

Great job on the building. Love the detail to it. What did you use as the gravel on top of it?

Looks very...

good, very nice work. Don't want to hijack but maybe you would agree to morf this, or start a new, Middlesex kit bash thread. Just asking. John

Kit bash thread

John, I am relatively new to this posting stuff. But what do you mean by a new thread? I do have a blog started on this site. Is that possibly where you mean I should do all the description stuff? I would be happy to give more details about this building and others I have built.

Middlesex Kitbash

OK Here goes. I will hopefully answer the questions asked above.

#1 - Stoker & Hoffertg - The whole building was air brushed with Polly Scale "Rust" #F414323, then I air brushed  the building with Model Masters Clear Flat finish #4636. I didn't do anything to highlight the mortar lines. After the flat finish I dry brushed the building with "Apple Barrel" Country Tan #2608 to highlight the raised details and give it a weathered look.. Then I applied a VERY LIGHT over spray of highly diluted PS "Tarnished Black" and for some details around where water would be present I did the same with diluted PS "Rust".

#2 - Caboose14 - The kit bash is really only (1) Atlas Middlesex Mfg. kit. I did show the pre-built building pieces parts in my blog a while back. Basically what I did was to take the one full end wall and attached it to the original long front wall. I took the two small split walls which would be used on the other end and cut them to the depth I needed to fit the space. For the thin section of the building (part on the right) I used what would have been the original back wall, and cut some of the pieces left over form the other cuts to make the return walls to the back. Both sections of the building have interior floors for bracing and removable backs for access to the interior lighting. The water tank and it's support structure, the roof access and the two venting ducts on the skinny section of the building are all scratch built. The rest of the detail parts are commercial parts from Walthers.

#3 - Don_CSX - I used Woodland Scenics #1393 Fine Gray Blend ballast for the gravel roof applied into a covering of matte medium and applied my "wet water mix" which is a 50/50 mix of water & 70% Isopropyl Alcohol to make it all settle down and stick.

A new thread is a post, sorry. I will start a new one this weekend, keep an eye out for it. I hope you repost your pictures of your Middlesex building. The title will be something like "Let's see your Middlesex kit bash". Thanks John

Rear Photos

Could you take some photos of the back side?  I'm curious how many kits you used and how you supported/joined them from behind.   Looks great!

Fantastic

I am working on a Middlesex Manufacturing kit now.  I hope mine turns out as nice as yours.  I was specifically interested in how you dealt with the windows with vents.
