If you've been reading this blog then you'll remember that I've been trying to reclaim portions of an elderly friend's HO layout but in On30. Much of his railroad isn't my style - mainline spaghetti bowl loop (big loop) and when I brought it home in huge chunks only the strong survived. Since On30 tie sizes and center-to-center spacing is som much different, portions of the layout are being used where you can't really tell that the rails is so out of scale. Some of the switches have come up in pieces so I am re-laying them on new ties and PC board ties from FastTracks. Yesterday I got inspired to mock up a small section of the branch line to see how it would look against my sloping attic ceiling. I wanted the railroad high off the floor as I share the space with years of accumulated "stuff" but, most importantly, to get a viewpoint of looking up at the mountain line. (See the attached blurry photo.). I've been encourages to build this railroad for me first through the many threads on MRH. The lone wolf approach will be a default with capability to have family or friend take up a throttle if they show an interest. An idea of running a train via the web seems within reach so a used Prodigy DCC has been acquired with Tortuous switch machines to allow a computer interface (very future). My interest is running the locals so would like to watch the clock (or smoke signals - or sound ) for a passenger or stock train to pass. We'll see how that pans out. The hidden yard is now in place so I am working on the next section to finally daylight. Since each section is build as a "module" to work on in the house, this will be an opportunity to share some pictures of progress on the visible portion of the line. Stay tuned. We are not so alone as I thought. Thanks for reading.
