I have been gradually accumulating locomotives and freight cars for my Colorado & Northwestern. Most of them are sitting on the layout as I checked my track and wiring through the construction phases. On my last layout I was using Kadee couplers but this time I wanted something that looked a bit more authentic. My time period is turn of the century about 1905. It appears to me that the viable choices are Kadee or Sergent Engineering couplers. I was wondering if anyone has used the Sergent couplers, I like the way they look but how do they perform?

Sergents

Rumors from the publisher's indicate there will be an article on the Sergents in the next issue of MRH that should help you decide.

Layout design, however, needs to be taken into consideration for these. You do need access to the cars.

That having been said, I have been switching my new fleet over to Sergents from Kadees. Here's a link to a page that I'm updated based on my experience.

Sergent Couplers

Indeed, Scarpia is right.  I have seen it mentioned by MRH staff, the publisher and one of the content contributors, that there is a Sergent Coupler article coming, slated for the next issue.  Looking forward to it!

I can wait for that then. I'm

I can wait for that then. I'm not in any hurry there are only about 15 cars on the layout now and its going to max out around 25 or so.

2 articles

There are actually two articles on Sergent couplers in the next issue (July 1st) - a first look article written by me and an installation and use article written by Jason Bakko.

Personally, my inner narcissist can't wait to see them!
