Stitching plates/screws?

Several of the photos and captions show stitching plates and stitching screws, but none of those photos are referenced in the text, and the stitching plates and screws are not explained.  These look very useful, and I’m not familiar with them.   I don’t recall seeing them in Home Depot...are they commonly available or at other stores?  The stitching screws look brass, with integral washers?  They would useful in a number of applications.

Any more info on these would be appreciated!  Thanks.

Hi Jeff,

The stitching plate or mending plate as they are also called are an Australian product for the building industry.  They are very versatile as you can cut and bend them yourself to make any combination of bracket or plate.

All of my bench work is either screwed together or I use a stitching/mending plate in some configuration.  This allows easy dismantling for removal and/or additions to be made.

The stitching mending plates are here:

The stitching screws are here:

Search for CBZ6425 or Zenith Button Head Timber Screws.  The stitching screws are also perfect for securing Code 100 track down in a helix too.

Available outside Australia?

Thanks, Jas!  Looking at the websites you linked, it doesn’t appear they sell direct or on-line.  Do you know if these plates etc are available outside Australia?  The American big-box stores in my area (Home Depot and Lowe’s) don’t list them on their websites and googling Stitching plates” gets me lots of sewing machine parts .

We have  flat mending plates, but they typically don’t have the variety of sizes and patterns of holes yours do, and I haven’t seen screws like the stitching screws around here.

Simpson Tie Plate

The Stitching Plate referenced is similar in function to the Simpson Tie Plate available in various sizes from the big box stores such as this example.  Part number TP37 decoded is Tie Plate 3" x 7".

You might try asking for

You might try asking for "Hurricane Fasteners"... coastal building codes are requiring them now.

Stitching Screws

I use lath screws - its a screw with a built in washer at the screw head - you can find them in lowes or home depot in the hardware (screw aisle) in the polypacks - in various lengths 1/2 to 1 1/4 inch.
