The free part of the Magazine is better by far to the paid part.

That was my thinking as I read thru it. Ads vary the read and add interest, Not all of the long articles  appeal, but the little snippets in the free section always appeal.

In no way is this a criticism I gladly pay my money and still think it is too cheap and In Aus our dollar is worth 30% less than yours.

N scale needs some small layout articles please..

Value for the Model Rail

As oldcup said, our Aussie dollar is pretty "el crappo" right now. Gee, once upon a time it was worth 15% more than the US dollar. Which makes the Running Extra a real good deal for me. After subscribing to RMC since 1972, I finally let my subscription lapse last year. Not just the relative increase due to our exchange rate, but the now ridiculous shipping charges to Downunder. I have been subscribing to MR since 1962, ditto to it as well, my subs run out this April.

But, having said that, both MR & RMC have become very predictable and have lost my interest big time.

So, happy with the Running Extra content and especially the price. And, unlike watching TV with heaps of annoying ads, I always read and enjoy the ads in the "free" Hobbyist section. I actually was talking to Joe Fugate at the train show last year in Kansas City, told him how much I enjoyed the mag and why I was dropping the two big US MR mags. He asked me what I thought was the content difference and basically it is the supporting photos of each and every article. A commercial printed magazine could simply not keep up with that.
