Why I don't frequent the website ( blog/forum ) very often.

Very simple , they're are specialized fora nScale.net, kitforums.com , that are more of interest to me. Those fora will also give you a mail and a link to follow ups of my posts, something I can't seem to find on this forum, even though I have the Notify me when new etc. on. Last but not least , on the other fora I visit I feel at home , I feel part of a club of friends, something I entirely miss here , but that might be due to the fact this forum is way too big.

Just my 2cents, every other opinion is right too.

Would rather download, then open.

I'm not too keen on the idea of having to open the file on the web before I can download it.  On slow connections it takes a long time to open a big file and many times the connection can get so bogged down that I can not do anything else during the wait.  I would rather have the option to download the file and save the extra logged-on time it takes to open it first.

On the phone and pad option, I simply can't fathom trying to read the magazine on such small screens.  It's bad enough having to scroll up and down and side to side on a regular monitor after zooming in enough that I can read the copy without having to have my nose up against the screen.

Why don't more enjoy this option?

I find the website very informative and easy to navigate. I don't understand why so many would enjoy the magazine and not the web postings. This is the only place to give and get immediate feedback on every article. I also wonder why so many people read the posts but make no comment? Glad there is a place to ask for ideas and host a blog. Thomas G.

Commenting on posts

Nothing to say, perhaps?  I read a lot of posts but I only comment if:

  • I have somethign useful or interesting to say
  • I have a question
  • Something is so well done that it deserves public praise

The last one is the tricky bit for me.  One one hand, a lot of the material here is superb.  On the other hand, saying so every time we see something we like would quickly bog every thread down with hundreds of "Nice Work" comments.  As a poster here myself, it's nice to see those, but it can also get in the way of more interesting (and useful) discussion.  Overall, I think we've struck a pretty good balance.

New format not my favorite

I'm not looking forward to the new magazine format in January.   The landscape style now work well on my wide screen monitor and with my aging Eyes.   The new 2 up style will fill the monitor screen but I'll have to blow it up to read it and then scroll through the pages.

I guess all good things have to come to an end.   I understand the reasons for the decision....just don't like it.

I agree.  Unfortunately the computer subscribers opinion does not carry the same weight as the smartphone subscribers opinion...or maybe it just feels that way? [wink]

Give it a try first. You never know, you might like it better. I've decided to withhold judgment until I've actually read an issue or two. Granted, I have a couple of large monitors to  read on, so I suspect my eyes will do fine.

Besides, as I understand it, there will still be a downloadable version, so it might be in the current format.

Why don't I frequent the forums more?

I come here almost exclusively for the forums.  Examples:

Some lessons from making my own decals

Tam Valley Models radio control pros and cons

Puffball trees.

The contributors are great and often they are 'state-of-the-art'  This is the BEST STUFF offered by MRH.  As said by another, visiting a thread doesn't always result in adding to a thread.

The magazine is good for the adverts but I don't really need it.  So my vote is for the fora (precious) and the blogs.  Yeah, team
