Has anyone successfully built Heljan's #804 Manual Turntable in HO? The instructions are vague and confusing. One exploded drawing and a photo on the box are all that are available as guides. A friend bought one (spent too much money) and also bought the Walther's powering kit. I have been tasked with building it as he has severe arthritis. Any help, tips, even a hopeful word would be welcome?

I am thinking....

Greg, isn' t the Walthers turntable made by Heljan ? You might look around Walthers site and see if there are any instructions for their OLD turntables, or maybe give them a call ? Their Customer Service Department has actually helped me in the past with issues I have had with older kits.  All of the turntables I have ever seen from Walthers OR Heljan have been pre-built...so I can't be of any help there.

I do commend you for helping a friend thou...and wish you the best !

Thanks Michael

I've overcome the major hurdle I had. I have it working. Kind of. It is a difficult kit and the plastic parts don't fit well together. I'm afraid it's a bit of it is what it is. It will work but may not be the smoothest operating turntable. There is a lot of lash in the drive mechanism which will make it difficult to align accurately.

There are other pages there that might help.

Of course! HOSEEKER

The diagram you post is nothing like what I have but I will have a look to see if there is anything further I can find out.

Dealing with lash

Greg,

I have the 130' Walthers turntable which I believe is also made by Heljan.  In the counter clockwise direction it slows before stopping at the correct spot.  In the clockwise direction it slows, goes just past the correct spot, then reverses to stop at the correct spot.  In other words the final stops are all made from the same direction to allow for the lash.

No seeking ability

This drive simply uses an Hankscraft motor to drive the turntable. That's it, direct drive, you have to reverse the current to change direction and it goes until you stop it. No indexing whatsoever.

PTC4

Greg,

New York Railway Supply has just come out with their newest turntable controller the PTC4.  More info on their website.  You may be able to find a PTC III on eBay or elsewhere.
