Using my new Kindle Fire

I promised JoeF that I would report when I had tried the MRH mag on me. Kindle Fire. I'm happy to report success. I'll report more later. It is slow typing on this little screen, but it is doable. Cheers Bill

Thanks Everyone!

What a great day! The "Greater Nickel Plate" lives - - we have a DCC power pack and controller; DCC decoders for the engines; track; power cleaner for engine wheels; new Nickel Plate Society Magazines to read; a new Nickel Plate T-Shirt for my birthday (Thank you, Peggy); and an assortment of other goodies I needed to work on the railroad.

Hand-laying outdoor track "O" scale.

I want to create an "O" scale garden railroad and have questions about hand-laying track. Does anyone have any recommendations for the track and ties? Also any suggestions for roadbed.

To avoid electrical problems I will be going to battery operated trains and radio control.

I have been surfing the net for ideas but there are almost as many opinions as people and some are contradictory. I live in Connecticut so the weather changes from one season to another can be dramatic.

A very simple (and free) thing that YOU can do to help Model Railroad Hobbyist

Ladies & Gentlemen,

First of all, this posting is my own idea and NOT at the request of MRH.  That said, we can all help the success of MRH by promoting it each and every time that we can.  Many of you are doing this now on your blogs and websites.  I encourage all of you that are not to do so.  It would also be helpful if your link contains one of the graphics that you can get from the MRH folks to help it stand out on your page.

Richfield RailRunners

Hello All, Our 5th week of work and we ave about a 3rd of the layout up. Last week we built a 3 turn helix using spline roadbed. It looks GREAT and the trains move up and down perfectly. This week we are going to put electrical drops in and continue laying track.

Rapido Trains Inc. announces revolution in model railroad realism

TORONTO: Rapido Trains Inc. is pleased to announce a new revolution in model railroading realism: 2:1 SCALE.

As the model railroad community ages it is getting harder and harder to see the small, fiddly details on our model trains. Rapido has developed an innovative solution to this growing problem - 2:1 scale.

With 2:1 scale model trains, the details are twice the size of the prototype, so you will never have to worry about losing a grab iron or coupler spring again! That's because our grab irons weigh close to a quarter of a ton!

Just keeps getting better

Joe,

You guys just keep getting better and better.

40 years in this hobby has given me ample opportunity to see practically every model rail mag in existence and I have to tell you that MRH outdoes all of them hands down!

Thoughtful and well presented articles give even the beginner the confidence to tackle many modelling aspects, add the videos and anyone should be able to have success with projects you present.

Thanks

I just "stumbled in" to this web site and am pleased to have joined. Very informative and I will be using information from here as I finally put my "paper dream layout" I have been carrying around for 30 years into lumber and trackwork. Yes, I'm a retired person who has been "in the hobby" almost all my life and now have the chance to do more than dream and draw.

Heresy

Can one unsubcribe?

Dave Stewart

I think Kalmbach and Carstens face a dilemma.

If E-publishing is the future of publishing and MRH is successful in leading the way, how does a magazine publisher switch over?  At first glance it appears to be easy.  Model Railroader could simply be converted into a free e-zine.  Their advertising base would support the magazine for a smooth transition without loss of revenue, BUT there is a huge "fly in the ointment".  How do you deal with thousands of subscribers who have paid for subscriptions in advance for a magazine that is now free?  They could offer the mag online for a price, but with so much
