Hi friends,

well, still being home and dealing with that P.T.S.S., I started to look at my layout and found my tree line was not to my liking any more, further more, I kind of don't like the super tree idea any more, scale wise and sturdiness wise (think, too fragile when dusting off the layout)...sowwwwwwwww..,

The Corps of Engineers has been hard at work restoring the old stream out back of Elwood's place. Folks started fishin' (the DNR re-stocked the stream) and swimmin' right away. There's some environmental work to be done with land contouring and trees being planted, but it's a start. Even the new 'facilities' out back got approval from the county.

Elwood's Place - Progress

Things sure move fast now that FEMA is reeling from the criticism it got over the N'awlins Relief Disaster. Not everything is done, but the County Extension Agent has been busy. The well and pump have been certified; and they hired that Pearl woman who runs "The Good Earth" landscaping company to come in and plant trees, ground cover (Elwood doesn't own a mower and sees no sense in buying one) and survey the river bank for some shoring up work later on.

Anyone using CTs for occupancy detection?

I have installed a dozen blocks using current transducers (CT) to sense presence of an engine (or lighted car) in a block. I use DCC. The circuits were designed by Bill Hudson (see hudsontelcom.com). Some of my signal heads work fine. Some are showing a double indication, ie, the clear signal (green) stays lit. I can't figure out what's causing the problem even with Bill's guidance by emails. All the circuit boards work correctly if I install them in a block where a signal head works properly.

I put the layout back up over New Year, so I thought I'd take some new photos showing areas which are not normally seen from the front of the layout. The subjects are an Intermountain U18B and an Athearn CF7, as yet unweathered or sound-fitted.

Looking for somewhere to obtain flextrack ties

I am seeking some help. I am trying to find a way to obtain flextrack ties in Concrete & wood. Ideally from Atlas is what I am seeking, but I have contacted Atlas and they don't do just the ties. I am modelling code 100 on my main line and find the ME track to restrictive to get it where its needed prior to putting it down. I am not interested in Proto 87 tie strips, as I was sent samples, and was very disappointed with them. If anyone maybe able to help me with getting just the ties it would be helpful

Another Tool Question

I plan on removing cast-on details from some of my rolling stock. I'm concerned about gouging the plastic and such and want to know what is the best way of doing this. What do you use and what are your opinions on using modeler's chisels for this purpose? Do they work? Could I simply use an exact-o knife with chisel blade?

	Opinions and suggestions please?

P.S. Would be great if we could have a separate section for new/old tool reviews- what works and what doesn't.
