Great American Train Show Rock Island Illinois

I attended the GATS in Rock Island this past weekend and ended up purchasing a few HO vehicles. IMHO great looking vehicles make for a better looking layout. Albeit at a price. I paid roughly $14 a piece for each purchase. The blue volvo is a "Brekina" brand, while the police car is by Busch and the trailer by Herpa. What can I say, I like cars?

OK...I will play along

Been working on my mini-layout featuring a small part of the Spokane Portland & Seattle in Bend Oregon, specifically the spur leading to the Lelco Sawmill. The first building I have decided to work on is the Haines Distribution building which received beer in boxcars. I still have the final exterior details and signs but for now it is done. I am moving on to the Lelco Mill loading building.

My latest adventure

Well, I figure I may as well join in on the photo fun. A couple of months ago I rescued a couple of foam background building out of the trash at my train club, I believe they were made by mountains in minutes. I asked why they were being thrown away and was told that they just didn't look good enough to be used on a layout. I disagreed and brought them home to resurrect them. I've been working on one now for a bit and have made it into an abandoned building that will be surrounded by weeds, trees and trash. the story goes that the old owner was an absolute slob and never did more than was minimally necessary to do what ever he needed to do. So now the building is a mess and not getting any better now that he has been forced to leave. I still have a lot of work to do on this but the building is painted, the windows boarded up, carved two new chimneys out of foam, new base made, and I've begun on the scenery and details.padilla2.jpg padilla3.jpg

As you can see I have quite a few detail parts to paint and I still need to add a ton more junk. I also want to add a rather large pile of old bottles down by the truck door. The siding will end up being overgrown with the possibility of a old wreck box car or something by the loading dock. I'm still not sure on that. The one thing I am sure of though is that it is turning into one heck of a fun project. Well, time to get painting those detail parts.

I have been working on my layout photography

I have been working on my layout photography. Trying to capture engines from an angle that a rail fan would have. I am trying to avoid the hot air balloon shots. These shots where taken on the Slim Gauge Guild club layout in Pasadena CA. The scale is Sn3. - Bill

This shot took all the studio lights that I could set up. This scene seems to soak up light. I also put a blue filter on two of the lights. I did a vertical shot to get the blue of the stream. - Bill.

This is kind of an interesting shot. This scene is about 5 to 6 feet deep, so the background gives a sense of depth. These shots where taken on the Slim Gauge Guild club layout in Pasadena CA. The scale is Sn3. - Bill

I've started this in a separate thread but just in case you missed it, here's a simple, and I stress the word SIMPLE review of an NZG HO scale Grove crane.
