Unwanted Guests

I was just looking at another blog about BUG problembs and i was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on evicting "guests" in my case spiders, from my buildings and scenery. From what i have been told they are a realitive of the daddy long leggs and although harmless, its a pain dealing with spider webs every day. HELP!!!

Spider Webs

I'm not an entomologist (I don't even play one on T.V.) but the spider's web is how it gathers its food. Keep knocking down the webs and eventually they will 1) starve or 2) seek "greener pastures". Either way, you get rid of the spiders.

I've also found that duct tape, placed sticky side up on the floor underneath the layout forms a trap from which some spiders can't escape.

(Is there anything duct tape can't do?)

Duct tape!!!

Duct tape!!!!!! Brilliant!!!! but wont it make walking around the layout a sticky situation? lol . That sounds like a neat trick George. i will give it a shot. but these spiders are like.. well... spiderman!! these suckers drop in from above so mabey some duct tape on the ceiling around the parimiter fo the layout may work.

I like the

Raid(TM) "Fumigators" for ridding my layout room & house of pests.  Follow the directions carefully.

Rick as that the same as.........

Is that the same as like the flea bomb stuff ? I remember my mother using it to kill fleas in the house a longtime ago when she had cats. I remember we had to leave the house for 12 hours, pets people, gold fish, every living breathing thing except for the fleas of course. Do you have to do the same thing with the Raid?

Bomb and Bomb Again

Same advice as other post regarding "Layout Bugging Me"

Fumigate or bomb according to manufacturers directions. Then fumigate and bomb again in about two weeks. This will kill any insects you missed the first time and any new insects that hatched since the first bombing. Please read the instructions very carefully prior to using any of these products. In addition to moving food, pets and people you may also have to shut off pilot lights (water heater, furnace, stove etc) prior to using.

The extreme heat this summer has brought quite a challenge to control spiders and centipedes in my basement. With the weather so hot the reproduction cycle is very rapid according to what I have read. I spray weekly around the house and in the basement and a few still get by me.

Make the fumigating or bombing part of your seasonal routine to keep the layout room as insect free as possible.

Good Luck

I'm waiting for the post telling us

. . . . that there can easily be an advanced iPhone GUI app controlling a rechargeable battery trap by wireless that will do this and save thousands in the long term.cool

Cliff, I don't think that

Cliff, I don't think that the Raid product is the same as the flea stuff as they suggest leaving the area for 3 hours. You do have to remove pets, humans, etc... For more info perhaps you could Goolge for directions.

Spiders and bugs

I have used Ortho Home Defense Max for the last two years. It works better than anything I have tried before. I spray around the inner walls of the basement. Lasts for about six months without a re-spray. Low or no odor when spraying.

There is one drawback, the dead bodies of the insects ect. Need to clean up once a week.

Dehumidifier?

Do you run a dehumidifier? I run mine 24/7/365, with exception of Jan/Feb when it's not needed. Otherwise, it runs all the time. Dry as a bone. This is good for track and scenery, and critters (spiders etc) don't seem to like it. They thrive in humid climates, at least in my experience. At my old house, without the dehumidifier, there were spiders and webs all over the place. Nasty. I'd dry the place out before you go bombing away!
