It's been a few weeks since I've been able to work on this, life & work get in the way. Sigh.

Anyway I've got the first section of foundation up and ready to start on a little track work. In my last post, I was proposing to make a shelf layout around the wall in my home office. Since I already have bracket shelves up on three walls I wanted to attach to that. I decided to use aluminum angle stock. It's advantage is that I can pop-rivet it together quickly and with little mess. I created a tray by sniping a pie section out where I wanted to bend the metal and bent it so that there was an overlap. I clamped it in place and drilled a hole just big enough for the rivet. Pop and it's securely fastened. I discoved that if I drilled a hole at the joint where I was going to bend, I got a clean bend with no bunching. When I had the four sides of the tray secured with the rivets it was VERY flimsy. By adding diagonal cross members it stiffend it up. Basically building a truss. Once the completed tray was bolted to the shelf brackets it became immovable. I cut foam to fit and that is the final picture.

Next I'm going to transfer the plan for that section to the foam. This section is going to be a three track staging yard stub ended with a fourth track and the through main.

I've included some picture of the assembly of the tray.
