I hve been reading about that all day. I mean the guy was a PHD student. Wow, all of those people. They were just going to a movie. What goes wrong in a guys head that he is compelled to do that? Just depressing all around. I am an agnostic, but if there is a higher power, I hope these people went to a good place.

I live in Westminster, a north suburb of Denver. Aurora is on the east side. I have friends who live in that area, and most likely were at that theater to see the midnight showing. I haven't heard anything about them yet. A co-worker said that he was able to contact all his friends, and they are fine.

It's going to be very confusing for a while. I remember Columbine. No one really knew anything for months.

I'm speechless. I just don't know what to say.  I can't imagine what could drive someone to do something so horrible. Watching the news coverage has brought me to the verge of tears several times.

Of course my prayers and compassion go out to all the victims families. I'm sure all of us feel that way.

I will never understand senseless acts of violence in an attempt to gain one's "fifteen minutes of fame".

Its a same the shooter was taken alive.

I knew there would be some member who knew someone who was there or lives near Aurora. And yes, Jim, I believe our GOD is a loving GOD and it is very difficult to understand why these things happen. I have been taught in my bible studies that when a horribile event such as this happens, you can rest assured that those who were killed are with Jesus as we speak. Again , i know this web site is all about trains and our hobby, but its so good to know that I am not the only one here who is really hurting right now. Thanks again guys.

 Good that your coworker's friends has been confirmed safe. I hope your friends also will turn out to be safe.

 I know what you mean about it having "been ... a day". We had that feeling over here in Norway last summer - a year ago this Sunday, when another idiot killed a lot of people over here for an utterly meaningless reason.

  I just hope that all family members, friends, neighbors, coworkers and other affected directly by this tragedy will have friends and loved ones to be with them through the time they are going through now, and that they will not be bothered by people trying to use this tragedy to push some political or religious cause.

Im sure some group or orginazation over here will start hemming and hawing. The gun control people are already going nuts. I dont want to turn this into any thing political but people got to understand that guns dont kill people. People kill people. Its just so sad.

(Sigh). Just couldn't help it, could you, Cliff? The point to stop, think and press "cancel" on the post is when you get to the "but" following "I don't want to turn this political".

Agreed. As horrible an event as that was, this is a model railroad forum, and now that folks have had a chance to speak, let's just leave it there.

Perhaps we can let this stand as a silent memorial, and negate moderator intervention.
