Op Session #2

Tom Patterson's picture

The Chesapeake, Wheeling and Erie Railroad held its second operating session this past Saturday. A few new trains were added to the schedule and the gremlins were held at bay for the most part. But most importantly, everyone had a good time. We dispatched using track warrants, which are a little too new for my era of the mid-1970's but work really well for the current set-up. We use car card and waybills as shown in the photos below.

The schedule included eight trains. In the photo below, Stuart Thayer has taken the SD40/SD40-2/SD40 lashup from COXE42 to the "house" at North Pierce.

Next up, Anthony Hardy is getting ready to bring the Dry Creek Turn into Nelsonville.

And in the photo below, Bill Ford and Ron Parish have just brought the Elkwater Branch Roustabout into Big Chimney and have set-out two wood chip hoppers on the Helper track.

There's a bit more detail on the session on the CWE blog. All in all, it was a great time, and it was really inspiring to see the layout in action.

Looks like fun to me

Thanks for posting pictures. Glad things keep working well and that you could add trains. Your
About room looks like a great place to spend some time.

Track plan

Tom

Do you have a track plan so we could see a overview of your operating sessions?

Thanks!

Very Cool

I'll venture a guess that everybody left smiling.  The scenic colors, textures, weathering, and so on look really good too.  You posted elsewhere about the rock features maybe being too light, but that's not apparent in these views, although I'm aware that rock hues vary throughout the region modeled.  If you hadn't voiced a concern, it's not something I would have picked up on as a casual viewer.

atcguy- I just updated the CWE blog with the track plan and some commentary, so you can see it there. The drawing is pretty rough, but it's the only one I have.

Rob- thanks for the comments.I know I was smiling.

JMRI OPERATIONS ONCE YOU DO IT YOU WILL NEVER USE CC AGAIN

I ran op sessions for two years with car cards, downloaded and set up FREE JMRI OPERATION program and it has brought a whole new and excitting world to my railroad. I am happy to help you get started. You will know its time when your operators have the car moves memorized. This cannot happen with operation program.
Great looking layout. Welcome to the world of operations. PS I have a bunch of car card boxes for sale.

Nice

Thanks for sharing the photos Tom. The railroad looks beautiful and if it runs half as well as it looks, I can understand why everyone had a great time.

re: NICE

Kevin,

Tom's layout does indeed run as well as it looks.  We all had a great time, and I can't wait for the next session.  Tom has mentioned something about "my" new job as the Hollister Yard yardmaster.  To that I say, bring it on.  I'm ready!
