IT'S CHRISTMAS - First loco

IT'S CHRISTMAS

I know this is silly, but I'm excited.  Tax season ended Tuesday - I can go home on time and not work til 9-10 pm; and

MY 2-6-0 AND TRACK JUST ARRIVED FROM MICRO-MARK.

My first engine in over 25 years.

I showed it to my cell-mate here in the office and she just knoded at me.  My wife will be like "OK".  So I thought I would share with people who might understand.

ALL IS RIGHT WITH THE UNIVERSE TODAY

Question:  Do I need to do anything to lube it or break it in?  I have kinda seen hints at this in forum posts and I don't want to kill this one like I did the last engine I had 25+ years ago..  It is the new Bachmann 2-6-0 DCC w/sound if that matters

New capital aquistion!

Congratulations - I also recently bought my first locomotive in decades - it's a good feeling!

Regarding break-in, I wouldn't expect any lube to be needed; some manufacturers recommend a few minutes running at a steady moderate speed, but the unit should have instructions to guide you.

Good luck, and congrats on your acquisition!

Thanks Rog

Thank you.  And congratulations and good luck to you as well.

Capital Acquisition - good term.  Boy have I seen that a lot in the last 3 months.  I'll have to check my book to see how many years to set it up for depreciation.  It  says track is 7 year property, but didn't see locomotives listed.  I'll have to check later.  Going home now to play with my new toy.

My past experience with Bachmann

The instructions that come with the locos does recommend lubricating - more recent production may not state that. Breaking in is, IIRC, always recommended by Bachmann.

Thank you

Thank you for the reply.  I scanned thru the paper work in the box and there was no mention of lubrication or breaking in.  It mostly talked about the DCC system and configuration.  I will check Bachmann's website tomorrow.

But I have to say that the engine worked right out of the box, I checked the direction, speed, horn, bell and lights and they all worked..  I'm sure there is a lot of tinkering that can be done and if someday I find a teenager.....maybe.  But the things that I wanted it for work (movement and basic sounds) and I am very happy and content with the basic features.

So asap I will set up an oval and let it run to break it in.

Downside:  since I bought myself something now the Queen wants to go to Memphis on Saturday to SHOP.AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.   She can't understand that shopping is free, it's the BUYING that hurts.

I hope all works well. Ah, yes, "what's good for the gander is good for the goose".

Queens are made that way.

Women are born shoppers and they need money to do it with. That's where you come in since you are supposed to be the primary source of funds. But there rewards built into the system if you know what I mean.

Irv

Yep

That's where you come in since you are supposed to be the primary source of funds

Yep, its been that way for 34 years.  Since she is partially disabled I am the only source of funding and also home labor.  Which explains my lack of money and time for modeling.

But there rewards built into the system if you know what I mean

Gee that will be great.  When do the rewards start?smiley

I guess now - I have started my railroad after 47 years on the clipboard.  I saw my first MR in 1965 and have been planning ever since.  But yes Irv - "I know what you mean".

The King - she said I could be.  If I behave and keep my modeling stuff out of sight.  Just kidding - we actually get along pretty well.

Queen and King

Well in my case I've been with  my Queen for 37 years. And she doesn't mind me being the King so long as she weilds the power and gets to crown me every now and then. wink  I have a place to keep my "toys" and so long as they don't escape everything is fine.

Queen and King II

It's about the same for us after 40 years and all of the accumulation of stuff. I have been granted an 8 x 12 area in our large basement to set up my new layout and 40 year old trains. I also recently bought my first locomotive in 40 years. It's good to be old and feel like a kid again. smiley

Al

Starting over in HO, with RailPro.

Absolutely

Pennsy - you are right.  It's is good to have the experience of our years and still be able to feel like a kid once in a while.. Congrats on your capital acquisiton and land grab.

I have kinda taken my son's bedroom (about 9x12  but 3 of the 4 wall have some kind of obstruction) for my space, but it still has to be a bedroom for when he comes home, so it is full of normal bedroom furniture that I will have to work around.  I am thinking of putting 2x? shelf layouts on the two long walls, then having removable connecting pieces that will join the 2 shelves. It will be ackward, but that is what I have and I am going to make the best of it.  Besides, these will be learning modules and not really "permanent", hence the name hacksaws (they won't be big enough to need a chainsaw)smiley

Gotta key down now and get some rest so I can drive the Royal-mobile tomorrow.  Memphis is about a 3 hour drive one way and we won't be staying overnight.
