With a little time on my hands I was able to do some work on a project that I been wanting to do for a while. I have had one of the older Walthers transfer tables and wanted to build a car shop and loco shop on the layout. Just have to finish weathering and adding details around the area.

Loco on flat

Well that is an old Piko BR52 German locomotive. The motor was in the tender and it didn't run when I got it. I seen a couple pictures of loco on flats so I modeled it. I know the loco needs to be on a heavy duty flat but I don't have the right kind at the moment.

Nice work.

I like it! Nice array of hoists and cranes.

I like it...

This is a really nice scene. Very well done, and with the addition of your "final weathering and details" should really stand out.

I too have one of the old style Walthers transfer tables but concerned about using it because of some of the reliability "issues" people complain about.

How is yours working? Any problems, hints, tips?

I am also curious about the crane at the front of the car shop. Is it a kit, and if so, who is the manufacturer?

Thanks for sharing, and any advice you have to offer.

Transfer table.

My transfer table work really well. Only advice I can give you is follow the instructions and add weight to the bridge. Also make sure the pit is flat. I have heard of some not being flat. Once the parts are glued on the bottom set something kind of heavy until the glue is set up. I use books the fit inside the pit. I also have a AC controller connected to it. I bought it off eBay and it connects to the AC side of the power pack. and it works great at slow speeds. It works better then what they described in the auction.

The crane in the front is a IHC kit.

Thanks for the kind words. I hope this helps.

Thanks

Thanks Don!

I suspected many of the "complaints" about the tables were from assembly / installation errors. But you can never be sure unless you ask. Glad to hear yours is functioning well. Mine will be DCC controlled once I get to the project. I'd like to use a cheap digitraxx sound decoder so it makes some noise when moving. I'll need to do some research on the type of sounds.

I'll certainly use your tips.
