I have always been fascinated

I have always been fascinated by scrap yards, so I decided to make Sanford & Son Scrap for the E. St. Louis rail Group layout. The scrap is bailed and shipped in gondolas to Granite City Steel, elsewhere on the layout. I made the bales from aluminum foil squeezed with pliers.

Bales

Can you share some photos of your aluminum bales? It sounds like an easy way to create a convincing gondola load.

Bales

Rick: I do not have a close up of the bales but can describe how to make them. Take a piece of aluminum foil 2" by   2" or larger and form into a ball about 3/8" in diameter and squeeze with a pliers on all sides until it is a cube shape. I don't try to make them all exactly the same size as you are striving for an overall affect. A pile of them looks very realistic. There are two sizes of bales that I have seen, one a 3' cube the other smaller at about 2' square.
