Has uploading of photos and diagrams been activated yet?

The reason I ask is that it was turned off the last time I checked and I do want to upload something that I need to show everyone before I ca finalize my car float/ferry section of my underconstruction layout.

Uploads

It doesn't look like that is available yet, unless I missed something.  You can still upload to another server and insert the image I think.

I expect photo uploading to be offline another week yet

I expect photo uploading to be offline another week yet.

We're having some issues with our server move that we need to get resolved and photo uploading is part of the problem right now. If we allow photo uploading before we iron out the issues we risk bringing down the site - so in the interest of keeping the site up and running, we're not going to allow photo uploading until we know we've ironned out the issues.

Sorry for the inconvenience and we appreciate your patience while we work through all these growing pains.

Another week without photo uploading

Joe,

I can be patient when I have to be and so I will be. I just want to upload something I recently found that shows what I am trying to reproduce with some selective compression in the Bay Ridge area of my layout.

Researching a real railroad operation, especially one that one is not that familiar with, is both exciting and frustrating. It's exciting when you find something new and frustrating when you can't easily find needed references.

BTW, would you be interested in an article about car float operations in the Port of New York?

Photo uploads

Irv,

If the image is one you found online just copy the images link location and insert the image in your post using the url to load it from the remote server.  If the image is something you can't link to on the internet, ie; it's only on your computer, if you like, send it to me and I'll place it in my webspace and provide you with the url to load the image.  That will get you going until uploads are re-instated.  Alternately you can use Photobucket etc. to host images and link to them.  Not as convenient as uploading to MRH but as a temporary workaround it's fine.  I have not tested it but I asssume one can still insert an image that is hosted remotely...lsets see.

Yup it works.

Photobucket

I have a photobucket account and I already have a few jpgs in there.

I found a plan of the car float aprons and yard at Bay Ridge when they were handling 1000 cars a day during the period 1920-1950. The yard was rebuilt some time in the 1970s when it was expected tha any remaining car float operations would be consolidated there. The new facilities which were basically two new aprons in place of the four that were originally there haven't been used since all car float operations into and out of Brooklyn and Queens were consolidated in what used to be Bush Terminal.

That's not what my layout is based on because my layout assumes a different reality. However, Bernie Kempinski came up with a track plan that uses car float operations from Bush Terminal in his book offering various trackplans. It's an interesting read so if you have access to a copy of Bernie's book, take a look at it.

Then you are all set to go, no need to wait for uploads to be turned on.
