Just got my new Walthers 60’ HO woodchip cars today. Thought I share a few pictures of them in case anyone else was thinking of getting some.  I got 2 in CN and 2 in WP.    I do like them and I’ll be getting more.

They are of the ribbed style, but not sure which particular one they based these on. The Walthers are a little shorter than the Hurburts and the LBF/E&C ones I have. The Walthers are also narrower than the LBF and really narrower than the Hurburts.

Over all I do like how they look. Like all of the Gold Line series I have from Walthers their wheels leave something to be desired. Once I get them to roll they should be great. I’m even thinking of getting rid of my Hurburts and replacing them with the Walthers

Hey, thanks Steve!

Steve:

Appreciate the photos of the new wood chip cars ... thanks for posting them.

Always helps to see photos - especially some comparison photos like you've done. The old adage that a picture is worth a thousand words is true as ever!

Woodchip Cars

   Steve,

The Walthers woodchip car I have, pre Gold Line, appears to be the two end-door version of the Thrall cars I built before the Walthers cars came to market.  The Gold Line cars I saw at my LHS seem to have the same overall dimensions so they are probably Thrall cars as well.  I used the Harold Russell article and drawings in the May and June 1977 MR.  The height difference in the cars is from the 36" wheels I used.

Here are some pictures of the Walther's car and the ones I built:

Thanks Steve

Nice looking group of cars you have there!  They do indeed look the same.  Thanks for that info that they are thrall cars, I can look them up and gain some more info for me.   I'm really liking these.  They are about the same size as regular 60' box car.  The hight differance is about the same as the differance between a regular car and a hi cube.
