I'm wondering if I can use Lepage's Plastic Wood as a substitue to Squadron Putty.  I will give it a try on some scrap styrene.  Anyone had any success with this stuff.  Want to apply it to my lighthouse and then carve it to look like rough rock work.

Lepages describes it as "Plastic wood is a high quality solvent based wood filler".

Nothing to lose!

I'd give it a try and let us know the outcome.  That's the new techniques and materials are discovered.  If it doesn't work consider air dry modeling clay, or if you can find it LOW tempature bake-to harden clay.

Solvents

As I recall Plastic Wood contains solvents.  I would definitely test some on a piece of scrap to see if it melts styrene.

Plastic wood is great stuff

For the most part and depending which manufacture of the Plastic Wood you buy will determin the solvent in it.

I have used Plastic wood on paint grade furniture and it w ork great for that. The few I have used have a napthia solvent which is Lighter fluid without the perfume additive and shouldnt harm plastics BUT I have used some that contain acetone as the solvent so read the label carefully before useing it on your light house.
