Yo all,

Been thinking about this for some time now. Why not taking MRH to another level by inlcuding a live tchat room. Not specially on this site, but for instance "yahoo messenger" perhaps. Been on messenger for some years now and, you all know I'm a biker, always in the MC room. Got to say, without messenger there wouldn't have been a bunch of real nice people whom now became almost a part of my family without messenger. Some times we even trade "biker T-shirts", one time I even got genuine Union Pacific items (working gloves, grade crossing warning stickers, signs etc etc etc) in trade for a t-shirt.

Ok , I'm the first to admit that there are some neg's on tchat, un-invited topics and people (to say it polite), but those never last long and there is always the " iggy button" and when persisting , reporting. (know a story where even the FBI was brought into the arguement), so I'm not saying it's 100% waterproof but when dealing with " real " people who all have a same hobby in common it realy can't go wrong (bad, lol).

Just thinking out loud............

Plans are to add chat

Plans are to add things like chat. The fact the best experience will come from being connected to the internet while reading opens up many exciting possibilities ... but we best not forget those with dial up either.

Currently, according to US Congressional Statistics, some 40 percent of Americans are still using dial up.

Yes to Chat

Hope this is not redundant - clicked preview message and got an IE error message - and a blank message screen, oh well.  Block & copy all before hitting preview, lesson learned.  Indeed this is the third effort to post this message - I didn't find this thread the first time so the other post may end up elsewhere but I doubt it as I've found that "preview" is a dead end, at least on my PC, so this one is not previewed.

I was asking about a live chatroom.  If there is one on this site, could you point out the way to it. I could not find it, I searched for Chat and this discussion seemed the most approrpriate place to post my question.   (copied from earlier post before I found this thread, downside of saving my post to the clipboard least I get that blank screen effect again)

This is a wonderful site and I see this as the future for magazines - the e-zine.

If you do not have a chatroom have you considered one?  I frequent another MRR forum at Scale Rails Online, and the SRO has a live chat which is one of the best features there.  Its like stopping into your local model railway shop and having a conversation with other rail enthusiasts.  (spel check two?)

There can be some behavioural issues in chat rooms, but I've found for the most part that model railroaders are a pretty friendly bunch and tend to just talk trains, ... just have to steer clear of politics and religion and your good.

I think it will be a great if you can do it.

I see the reference to IM in this thread and that's nice too, but is nothing like a live chat room.

BTW I just ordered the Deal of the Century - could have put it off until tomorrow, but why wait until the last minute...

 Here's the chat

Here's the chat program  philadelphiaeagles.com uses,  http://www.coveritlive.com/, they put it up when they want to have a group chat, then they take it down when the chat is over.

Another example of chat- used by Model Railroader mag online

Every post in Model Railroader mag online has a link named "Start Conversation", which opens up some kind of chat interface.

I've never used it, though.
