Driline

Well I read Ricks post (rtw3rd) about using the Muvi mini dv camcorder on his train layout and went and purchased one on Amazon.com for about $55 with free shipping. The first unit I received was DOA,but the 2nd unit worked just fine. Amazon has a simple return policy so it was fast and no big deal. Here's my first video shot just yesterday. It's actually pretty cool. The video quality is certainly no HD but it's OK for what it does.

The layout is just a small 7X11 shelf unit nestled in the corner of my basement which was started in 2006. I'm no where near finished. Lots of details and weathering yet to do.

And I don't want to hear any flack regarding my "Disco Ball"

Very nice - including the D.B.!

Driline,

Very nice video and the layout is cool!  Thanks for sharing.

BTW, I also love the "big shiney thingy on the ceiling"  (Sorry, I couldn't resist!)

Railfan view of bridge crossing

No MUVI camera here but I did shoot a short video of a BC Rail freight crossing the Peace River on my N scale layout.   It is shot from the perspective of a railfan sitting up on the river bank.

Nice!

Great little tour. You've packed quite a bit of scenery into that space. And it's quality scenery too. Thanks for sharing.  And hey.........I party in my train room all the time too!

cool video

This video isn't of a layout, but I think you'll really like it.  Back in the 80's, HBO used to show a short film clip before their "Feature Presentation".  The segment was shot on a miniature set that might as well have been a train layout (looks to be around HO scale).  It's 30 feet from one end to the other and the backdrop is 16 feet.  All the buildings were scratch built as were the trees and scenery.  Remember, this is from a time when computer generated video effects weren't around.

Here's the opening sequence:

And here's the video of how they made it:

I've often wondered if any of the model builders they show in the clip are active in the hobby.  Any of you recognize any of those guys? James Kowalski is the only one named and that doesn't ring a bell with me.

Anyway, hope you like it!

Thanks for sharing Bill. That was really cool. I remember my "Rich" friends had HBO and the opening sequence was as awesome back then as it is now.

Very nice Video

took me back to my old MGM days and working for the studios. I had nothing to do with the HBO group but I learned a lot working in the model dept. This little video sure took me back about 20+ years. I really learned more from them about modeling then from all the books I ever read.

Thanks Bill for posting these

Our World

Rick, you opened up a new type of Touring medium for our worlds.  Reading about a layout featured on MRH can include a short Operations MUVI????

DRILINE is a very nice looking layout, my compliments!  At :21sec  (train passing a blue pickup) the "autumn" trees to immediate left look 3D!

And  a disco ball???  Really???? (flack)

Nice job, guys!

You're getting the Friday video fun thing down pretty good!

Sharing video of your own layout or a friend's layout is good, but also if you think there's a fabulous video out on YouTube that's a train subject, go ahead and post it here in Friday video fun.

HBO introduction

Thanks for posting that. I forgot all about that sequence. I was a model railroader back then and I always enjoyed that opening every time. The one part where you actually see the traffic signal change from green to yellow always fascinated me (right were the camera comes to a T in the road and goes over the buildings into the suburbs).

I remember seeing that how to program only ever once and never seen it again. They must have aired it for several years after that because it was well after the 1982 date shown in the end credits when I saw it. Imagine how cool it would be if they did that same sequence today.

For the original poster. Great video. It feels like your actually on the train, especially when you cross the trestle.

Chris.
