Just wondering from everyone's input really. I think I would like to start a blog (journal) on MRH, (very new to all this) but with the forum moving, should I wait until the bugs are worked out on the new forum or start one here? Any thoughts or input would be great! Tips for Blogging would also be great! I see great things on the forum and I think its time I become more active and stop lurking! Thanks everyone for your time

Since it's moving in a week...

I'd suggest just waiting at this point. If you want to get started, write up your intro/ooening posts in a text document, then just cut and paste it when the move is made.

Blogs

MRH really is not a true blogging platform.

"Blogs"/journals here are basically forum posts in a particular category.

Start whenever you like.

When to start?

Hi Denzil,   You could do a short practice thread now then after the forum move you could continue or start a new blog.  Do you have a layout idea or modeling goal yet? .....DaveB

True but …

Yes, technically, that’s true. But I guarantee you a journal/blog on the MRH platform will get reads that far outdo any “blogging” platform.

So what is it you're after? Reaching a more significant audience, or being able to claim you’re using a real blogging platform? Most outside blogs I’ve seen get hundreds of reads. By contrast almost all blogs on the MRH site get thousands of reads.

I don’t see any problem with starting a blog thread on here this week and then continuing it next week on the new platform. It will move over just fine, easy peasy. Should be pretty seamless.

Photo adding...

I've been patiently holding off on making more blog posts until the new forum switch because of the clunky manner in which to attach photos on this current format. It's really annoying if you are using a mobile device to upload/link pictures. The new forum its so much easier!

That's true ... and one of the main reason's we're moving. Mobile sucks on the current forum -- and the new forum is so much easier to use on mobile.

Current forum vs new forum

Joe,

I completely agree that the current platform for the forum sucks with a mobile device. I'm impatiently waiting...

If someone was just starting to post frequently with a blog roll, I'd say wait the 2 weeks. If they really wanted to type text, they could always just add photos later.

Now there is an idea!

Kinda like the idea of a practice thread/intro to what I'm trying to accomplish. Great idea Dave. Maybe some folks could chime in and then I could polish it up after the change over. Thanks

When to start? You already did.

This thread is actually going to be your first blog thread. As I understand it, there's no distinction on the new forum between 'blog' threads and 'forum post' threads, or at least the fact that this is a forum post won't keep you from adding it to your journal index on the new forum.

I think you don't need to start an official blog on this forum, you can just continue this thread or start another and create an index on the new forum linking to this thread and any other when you get there.

You can call me EW. Here's my blog index

Indexing

Well, I used to believe I was computer savvy, but as the years have rolled by I have realized that I definitely I am not! How does someone set that up to have indexes? I would like for my blog to be similar to Randy Seiler's Cincinnati West  construction blog or Paul Krentz 's Pokey.

Thanks for your time

Starting a blog

Go to My account on the right hand menu, then select view recent blog entries.

Then at the top, select Post new blog entry -- and you're off and running.

Sounds easy enough

Thanks Joe! That sounds easy enough. Creating an index may be an issue for me but I'm sure Ill figure it out (most likely with some help!). I also need to figure out how y'all create the fancy signatures  like you have and adding a profile picture (I am a face recognizer, not a name) I have some small projects to finish up and then its wheels up for my layout journal.

Thanks for your time.
