How to disassemble Walther HO Troop Sleeper Locos and rolling stock

Can anyone tell me how to disassemble an Walthers HO Troop Sleeper?

I can get the roof off but the tabs that hold the sides to the core are not flexible enough to get out of the slots into which they engage.

I model the NH and I need to get the sides off to enlarge the doorways.

Once you've got the roof off and removed any interior pieces that might be installed, hold the body/sides and push on the tabs with a screwdriver or the end of a file to push them out of the holes from the inside.

It will require some presssure.

Your idea worked just fine. The tabs that held the sides in were so relatively thick I was afraid I would snap them off  of send the car flying across my shop. Once I got the tab depressed with the first screwdriver, I slid a smaller screwdriver blade in between the car core and the side and twisted the smaller screwdriver to ease the side off.

As I have 2 I'm getting ready to turn into a pair of steam generator cars loosely based off an MR article from years past
