Construction is under way on a background building for the SMR.  It comes from a long out of production kit picked up at a sale years and years ago.  One problem is that there a gaps in just about every seam where the white columns meet:

The seams have to be filled and sanded.  In the past, this would have been done with one of the old Squadron plastic putties.  I haven't tried the new formula Squadron putty, but came across this Vallejo putty while browsing in a local model aircraft R/C shop:

It works really well for me and might be worth a try.  As always, YMMV.

Another good product is

Spot Putty used in automotive body shops a a final filler before priming.  Comes in a tube and is a lot less expensive than modeling products.  Dries really fast.

Squadron

Squadron Hobby’s went out of business a year or so ago.  Any putty from them is going to be old stock. The last version they sold was not very good any way. It separated in the tube and was just a mess. White and green.

Im with Michael. Spot putty is the way to go if you need putty.

Bondo spot and fill

For the price and quantity you can't bet the Bondo spot and fill putty. And it's available just about any auto parts or hardware store.

Prices?

So I must ask: which is the cheapest and what stores did you shop at? Auto Parts. Egads, there are so many around here, I would hate to have to go to each one to find the exact product needed. I suppose "Bondo" might be at all, but since I want "cheap", I'd like to know more specifically what to buy. Or can it be obtained through Amazon? It seems to me that Amazon has almost everything anyone ever wants or needs.

Bondo is a brand

Walmart has Bondo Glazing and Spot Putty in the 4.5 oz. tube for $3.59.  Many auto parts stores also sell it.

something a little different to try

get some 3D printer resin and a UV flashlight.  Put some resin on the seam with a toothpick or a brush and turn on the flashlight (don't aim it at the resin bottle).  In just a few seconds the resin will be hard and ready to be sanded.  3D printer resin will not shrink and sands amazing.

That was an aha moment

Thanks for the 3D printer resin suggestion Jeff, that is a great use for my resin while I draw out the next project!

now all I need is for someone to visualise the rest of my layout for me
