Daboosailing

Hello, I am modeling in On30 and am looking for O scale Automobiles and Trucks.  I'm modeling pre-1930s but would be interested in all of 1930s, if that is what is available.  Do you have a good website.  I would like to build these models if I can.

Thanks in advance!

Vehicles

A few years ago there was a list of 1/48 vehicles on Gene's P48 Blog: https://myp48.wordpress.com/2015/03/16/in-search-of-more-vehicles-and-other-topics/

I don't know how valid this list still is, but it might be a starting point in your search.

Also looking for this

As a fellow 1:48th modeler, I too am looking for vehicles from the depression and earlier.  I'd like to 3D print but I'm finding the geometry of vehicles to be really difficult to replicate unless it's a Model-T.

Plastic

There are plastic models of WWI stuff.  Some American stuff had other names on it.  I know the Ford model T was made in Russia and some Best Tractors in Japan.

Few 1/48th Civilian Cars

Unfortunately 1/48th was not a very popular scale for automobiles.  Renwal produced a few 1/48 scale 1930/40s car kits in the 1960s but those were last sold in the 1970s by Revell.*  You might be able to find them on eBay.  I know they had have both Ford Model "T" and Model "A" kits in 1/48th. They were decent quality kits for their day but certainly not up to today's standards.  Revell also had a few 1/48 cars and trucks but they were mostly 1950s vehicles.

For military modelers, 1/48 is becoming more popular and there are some kits, especially of trucks, that were military versions of the civilian vehicles. Keep in mind for WW2, most of the trucks were designed in the late 1930s.  WW1 subjects are also becoming more popular and there were a lot of stock vehicle conversions. You might be able to modify some of these back to their civilian roots.

If you can live with the approximately 10% larger size, there is a lot more variety in 1/43rd scale. However, that is primarily a diecast collectors scale and I only know of a handful of plastic kits ever offered in that scale, all of post-1960's cars.  Also, 1/50 scale is pretty close, but the models are mostly construction vehicles and tractors.

You may want to search Scalemates (https://www.scalemates.com/) which is a huge plastic model kit data base. It will show the kit information, scale, manufacturer, year of first release and year(s) of any re-boxing, even by a different company.

I hope this helps a little and good luck in your search.

*When Renwal went out of business in 1977, Revell purchased most of their molds.

1/48th scale Model Airplanes

I have many 1/48th scale Model Airplanes!  This is a very popular size for both WW1 ww2 and modern aircraft.  You would think with O-27 O scale, O narrow Gauge that there would be a call for this size.  I am sure not finding this to be the case, however!

Craig H.  I might be interested in what you have, Post a list with photos and what you want for them and we will see.

Antique Malls or Stores

We have 2 large antique malls in this area and a few smaller ones that are more like a store. I have seen autos for what look like close to HO, S, and O scales in one of them on a pretty regular basis. They also have the odd bit of train stuff.

For a while I was doing ON30

For a while I was doing ON30 and ordered some Danbury Mint pewter cars that I was pleased with.
Here's an example currently on eBay:

Russian-American vehicles

In the early 1930's several American vehicles were produced in Russia, with kits in 1:48 scale:

Ford B car (1932) = GAZ-M1

Ford AA truck (1927) = GAZ-AA

Autocar SD truck (1929) = ZIS-5

Ford A car (1927) = GAZ-A but no kit

Other than a dog breed, I can't find anything on Corgi!  Do you have a website?

I have a 1912 Cadillac & a

I have a 1912 Cadillac & a 1912 Packard which are surplus to my needs. I'm uncertain as to scale but it's "about" 1/48. Manufacturer is uncertain; box shows "Miniature Car Series", "Classic Car Series", & "T.N".

If interested, contact me at f134kilmil@hotmail.com for photos.

Brookshire Valley has vehicles.

Brookshire Valley on eBay has a number of 1930s trucks, older chain driven vehicles and a lot of horse drawn wagons.

Corgi Link

Probably one of the more famous manufacturers of die-cast vehicles.  Lots in 1:43, 1:46, 1:48, 1:50 …

https://uk.corgi.co.uk

E.g., in 1/50: https://uk.corgi.co.uk/products/dads-army-j-jones-thornycroft-van-and-mr-jones-figure-cc09003

Always loved getting these as gifts as a kid.

They’ve been around forever and have a huge following globally, so I would expect that in their early years they made a lot more cars and trucks in your requested vintage.  Per link above, they still make one!

They tend to be well made and very collectible, so fetch a price.  My favourite as a kid was a wagon decorated for the (‘68?) winter olympics.  Back door opened, etc.  I won it on a dial-in contest on CFAC Radio in Calgary as a kid.  I think it’s around somewhere.

Other scales?

This sounds like we should have a list of possible what's available in all scales. Vehicles from the 1930's were still around long after 1930. I remember seeing them in the 1950's when I grew up. Yes, model T's, A's and certainly Oldsmobiles.

Yep, when I was in high school in the 60's I had a 1937 Packard, a 38 olds, and a 37 chevy plus a few  1940's cars too. One of my friends drove a stock model A ford to school. ...DaveB

Thanks for the help!

Thank you to all who have helped out here!  It appears that O scale Vehicles are quite "Hit and Miss".  I would expect the Model T to still be in use, when the Model A came on the scene.  I wanted a Model A Two/Four Door Sedan; but, if I can't find that one, I will go for earlier cars.  I do not need autos and trucks yet, as can be seen I am still laying track.  Just doing some preliminary searching and would buy if I found exactly what I need.  I am very interested in Wiseman Models.  Maybe I need to jump ahead a couple years with my railroads operational year!  Anyways, Thanks for your help!

Dennis Austin, I believe you are referring to Berkshire Valley, instead of Brookshire Valley.
